Once again, if you need to catch up on the other chapters of this short story, you can here:
Emily. Emily was standing in front of my house with a big sign. I stepped out of the car slowly, and a big smile spread across her face. She held the sign up higher, and began to jump up and down. She looked so excited.
Julian, will you go to the church prom with me?
I felt like my heart was going to melt. Church prom? Who ever heard of church prom?
I looked over at my mom, and she looked confused. Maybe I wasn’t the only one who had never heard of church prom.
“Hey!” I walked over to a very excited Emily slowly. “What’s happening here?”
“Hello? Did you not see the sign? Church prom! It’s so fun! You HAVE to come!!!” she almost yelled in my face.
Ten minutes later, I’m dressing up very nice in a black tuxedo and tie. My mom found the tuxedo in my dad’s closet.
Then, quicker then I can say, “hi,” Emily is escorting me to her church’s prom.
A slow song came on, and Emily took my hands, a big smile on her face. “Thanks for coming with me Julian. Can we dance for a little bit?”
“Sure,” I nod.
“Have you made any new friends lately?” Emily asked as we danced.
“I haven’t, why?”
“Well, I think I should introduce you to some of my friends.”
After the dance, we went to get food. I was starting to get tired, and I did not need what happened next.
A group of boys I recognized from school came up to the table Emily and I were sitting at. They looked mad, but I couldn’t understand why.
“Emily! We’ve been looking everywhere for you...What are you doing with this kid? He’s dangerous.” They laughed. I curled up my fists.
“Huh?” Emily asked, “Julian? Dangerous…” she didn’t laugh. “I don’t get it. Is that the only reason you came over here? Just to tell me he’s dangerous?”
The boys laughed a little, and one of them said, “Definitely not. We want both of you to come to a party tomorrow night. Here’s the address, and you better be there. Fun games have been planned, and there will be plenty of drinks.” One of the boys placed an invitation on our table, and smirked when they said there would be “plenty of drinks.”
“We are not going to that party tomorrow.” Emily said as soon as they had walked away. “The devil is just trying to tempt us. He wants us to get drunk, and ignore God. I don’t like it at all.”
I think for a minute. “I think I’ll go, actually.” Emily looks at me in surprise, “I-I didn’t expect I would have to explain myself,” I say.
“You don’t,” she crosses her arms, and makes an excuse to leave, “I just remembered I have to meet my mom somewhere. I’ll walk. See you later…” she trails off as she leaves.
That is all for today's chapter. I promise I'm not going to wait a whole week to get another chapter out this time. You can expect the next chapter in about one or two days. Thanks for reading! ~Ella
