A New Reputation: Chapter one

So, as you may already know, I like writing short stories! I started writing this story for Quoted, the book I'm writing, but I have already finished writing Quoted, and have decided not to add it to my book. I decided I would make it into a new series on my blog. There will be a new chapter probably once or twice every week! Enjoy chapter one, and look out for chapter two coming in a couple days...

Monday morning, and I was not ready to wake up. It was going to be the first day of school, but what I didn’t know yet was that I would be spending almost the whole day in the office. Yes, I was going to get in trouble on the first day of school. I would have never guessed.

"Julian! Come get ready for school!” my Mom called from down the stairs. My alarm had gone off ten minutes earlier, and I had almost fallen back asleep. I slid out of bed and pulled on a clean t-shirt and jeans. Then, I ran downstairs to see what Mom had made for breakfast.

“What’s for breakfast?” I asked as I made it to the kitchen. Mom looked up from her pancakes and smiled.

“It’s obvious, isn’t it? I’m making pancakes,” she said, then right away look at what I was wearing, and I watched her face move all the way up my body to my hair. It was like she was scanning me. “Did you brush your hair or teeth? You need to do that after you eat. I don’t want you going to school with a smelly breath.”

I rolled my eyes, “Whatever!” I threw a pancake on a plate and then piled on the syrup. I looked at the clock as I sat down with breakfast. “What time does the bus come?”

“Six o’clock.”

Twenty minutes to go. I thought as I scrambled to finish eating.

About thirty minutes later I was walking into high school. My first day of high school. I stared down at my list of classes on my schedule as I walked to the first period. If you’re wondering, first period is science with Ms. Daum. I sighed as I looked around for a seat when I made it to class. As I walked to the back of the room, my favorite place to sit in all classes, I noticed there was a kid handcuffed to a desk. Must be a juvenile delinquent. I thought to myself.

Before I knew it it was lunch. I was at a new school, so I knew no one, and I was hoping to make some friends at lunch. It’s usually pretty easy to make friends when going to a new school almost every year, but because of things I did that I’m not very proud of, this year was way different. Maybe it was that everyone had read the newspaper and seen the article about me getting kicked out of my last school because of something that happened. Well, I guess I should tell you what happened at my last school before we continue.

In eighth grade, I was just minding my own business when this kid rammed into me, and I have anger issues, so I kinda got super mad. The kid just got right up and didn’t even apologize, but I wanted him to apologize, so I just grabbed him. Then, that’s where things went downhill. Do you know how boys fight? Well, that’s how we fought, and I beat him up pretty badly. That’s why I got kicked out of school, and that’s why I think I’m having a hard time getting some friends. I mean, that wasn’t the first time I got kicked out of school, so I kinda gained a reputation.

I walked around with my lunch tray, looking at the different groups of high schoolers sitting at the tables. There was the Bible-loving group, geeks, cheerleaders, and jocks. I didn’t want to sit with any of them, so I sat by myself at an empty table.

Sitting at an empty table on my first day of high school at a new school was not a very great idea though. I started to notice the other kids pointing towards me and laughing. My mind went straight back to the fight the year before, and then the time I tried to drive a car without a driver's license. All at once, I was remembering everything I had done that all those kids were staring at me for. Then, I noticed someone heading my way from the Bible-loving table.

That was chapter one! What were your thoughts? I wonder where this story will go...Stay tuned...as always. ~Ella
