Time for chapter two! What will happen next I wonder?
I watched as a girl walked towards me. I was wondering why she would be the only one to have the nerve to come to sit by someone who had done so many terrible things. I thought all the kids would be scared of me by now or something. Anyway, my thoughts were racing as I watched the girl walk up, and awkwardly sit across from me.
She spoke first. “Hi, I’m Emily. You must be new.”
“Yeah,” I said and kept looking at her. By then I realized that everyone in the cafeteria was staring at us.
“Well,” Emily stuck her hand out for me to shake, “What’s your name?”
I carefully took her hand, but I didn’t shake it. Instead, I looked into her eyes and replied, “It’s Julian.” I kept looking at her until she slowly pulled her hand away.
“Umm...Well, I guess by now you noticed everyone here at Revlon High has their own little group. I guess you can probably already guess what group I’m from. And you probably already know what I’m gonna say, but I’ll say it anyway. Would you like to come with me to church this Sunday?” Emily asked politely, looking at me with her pretty blue eyes.
“No thanks,” I said, uninterested. I didn’t want to be pulled into any kind of group that had to do with religion. Religion just bored me. The whole thing about believing in gods and worshipping gods. It was just not worth my time.
Emily smiled, “You know, if you don’t feel comfortable yet, you don’t have to come. I just thought I would ask, and let you know that you’re welcome to join me at church anytime,” Emily pulled one of her hands through her hair as if she was thinking about something, then she continued, “Do you mind if I sit with you for the rest of lunch? I don’t want you to have to sit by yourself while everyone else has friends and stuff.” She pulled a light blue bag off her back and put it in the seat beside her. Then she pulled out a book and began reading.
I just watched her for a minute until I realized I had been staring. Then I cleared my throat, and she looked up at me.
“Why are you making it a point to sit by me?”
“I just thought you might like some company on your first day,” Emily told me. I admired how she didn’t say she sat by me just to invite me to church. “Did you think everyone was scared of you or something?”
That question is what I think made me mad. What I think planted my butt right in the principal’s office. Somehow I made some disruption, which I can’t remember right now, and I was whisked away to the office. Emily was probably staring dumbfounded as I walked away.
“Mister Fields?” Principal Dean asked.
I was sitting in the ugliest office I had ever been in, and I’d been in a lot of offices in my lifetime. This particular office had a red carpet, and pictures of doors all over the room. I was sitting in a chair with no cushion, and I felt miserable.
“Fields?” The principal asked again, and then I jerked to attention. As soon as he saw he had my attention, he began talking about my punishment. “Why did you interrupt the cafeteria, and almost injure Miss Emily Anderson?” I was about to speak, but then he interrupted, “I’m quite aware that you’ve been kicked out of past school’s before, and I don’t see how it would be good for you to be kicked out of this school as well. What I’m going to tell you, young man, is that you have one more chance. If you mess this last chance up, you’ll be kicked out of this school. If it was a different student, I might give them three chances, but it looks like you have had plenty of chances.” With that, I was kicked out of his office and asked to sit outside of it until the bell rang. Well, the bell wasn’t supposed to ring for another half hour, so good luck to me to find something to do while I waited.
Once the bell finally rang, I waited for the halls to be clear so I wouldn’t have to risk getting laughed at. I planned on walking home because I did not want to ride the bus after what had happened.
So I sat there until I was sure the coast was clear. I got up and walked around the corner where the water fountains were. There, drinking water from the fountain was a girl. The girl turned around, and I noticed it was Emily.
When Emily saw me her face turned pale, and she looked like she was going to lose her guts. I stood there staring at her until she finally started walking towards me.
