The Christmas Story: part two (blogmas day nine)

Luke 2:8-14 says, "And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, 'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!'"

Who are the angel's celebrating? We are going to read about that today.

The angel's are celebrating the birth of Jesus! Guess what? We are celebrating the birth of Jesus this Christmas too!

Sometimes we get distracted by life, and every day things. We all do it. Especially during Christmastime, things of this world could get us off track of the true meaning of Christmas. Even though I don't have anything bad to say about celebrating Christmas by giving and spending time with family, I still want to remind you why we celebrate Christmas. You will be reading a lot about why we celebrate Christmas throughout this month here on my blog.

1. Worry about giving more than getting

I know! We love getting presents and the joy of unwrapping them and finding what's inside, but giving is far better than getting. Let me explain. I always feel bad giving people my Christmas list because I don't like wasting money. Some things I might want for Christmas could be a waste of money, and some things might not be. I always feel bad saying that I want this, and I want that.

That's why I prefer giving, even though I love opening presents. But it's so important to give because while we are over here, living the life in America, people all around the world are not so lucky. God has blessed us by giving us everything we have, yet we sometimes forget to celebrate God and everything He has given us.

I'm branching off to several subjects here, so let me just break this up:

- Have you ever given a homeless person some money, or just something to help them out? That is giving, and it makes my heart fill with joy when I give. Once, my Meemaw and I were eating lunch at a restaurant, and when we were going back to the car, a homeless man, and a lady in a wheelchair came up to us. They asked us if we had any food or something to give them. My Meemaw told them we did not have anything, then we began driving away. But I kept thinking about that man and woman, and I asked my Meemaw if we could go back. We ended up giving them our leftovers from our lunch that day. I remember going to church the next Sunday, and telling my teacher all about it. I was so happy that I had done something good for someone. It just made me feel so good inside.

- That story brings me to the point I'm trying to make, giving is so much better than getting. It's so fun, and it reminds you that others might not have as much as you do, and you're fortunate enough to share something you have with someone in need. Or, you might just be giving someone you know a Christmas present, and you probably still feel so happy about giving in that situation.

- Don't forget to celebrate Jesus this Christmas!

That last point was super short because there will be more written about that subject later on, and I didn't want to write too much for one blog post. Anyways, come back tomorrow for the next day of blogmas! ~Ella
