The definition of October is: spooky month. Okay, maybe it isn't, but a lot of people think of both fall and Halloween when October comes around.
So, let's get this straight before I continue...I hate Halloween. Halloween is my least favorite holiday ever. BUT, two of my favorite genre's to read are mysteries and thrillers, and October is the perfect time to get in the mood for reading mysteries and thrillers.
With that being written, expect to see a lot of mysteries and thrillers on this list.
(I don't know what that intro was, but welcome to the monthly every book I read this month blog post!)
In October, I read 13 books.
1. Ali's Pretty Little Lies (PLL #0.5): by Sara Shepard- finished October 1st
The first book I read this month was the prequel to the Pretty Little Liars series. If you didn't know, I loved the show, and now I'm reading the book series!
I read the first book, then learned that there was a prequel, so here we are.
There were a lot of mixed reviews on Goodreads about whether to read the prequel before book one or after book twelve (because the prequel came out after the first book). But, I'm here to confirm that it is completely okay if you read the prequel before book one.
Another thing I noticed from reading the prequel made me glad that they changed things in the show because Ali's character needed to be redeemed. If you know you know.
2. The Heart of Betrayal (The Remnant Chronicles book two): by Mary E. Pearson- finished October 8th
Last month I read the first book in this trilogy with my best friend, and now, this month, I read the second book.
I pretty much binge read the last 300 pages of this because I started it at the beginning of the school week, then realized that if I didn't sit down and finish it in one sitting, I would have to renew it from the library.
I really don't like renewing books from the library. I always try to read the books that I check out before they're due. But of course, every time I go to the library I want to check out like ten books. So, anyway, I went crazy and read the rest of this book in one day, and then returned it to the library an hour before they closed.
I love this book! It's so good! The author really spent time writing this trilogy, and even though it's kinda slow at first, it's just really refreshing. I think I gave this book four stars. It's so good! And, by the way, I've been using my monthly book club journal that I designed while reading this trilogy, and it's so much fun to fill in everything. So, if you want your own book club journal, and you want to start a book club...here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BBXQR1F7/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i4 (And, if you don't have anyone to start a book club with, but want this journal....I'm here! I'll start a book club with you! Dm me on Instagram or comment on this post if you want to start a book club with me!!)
3. Live on Purpose: by Sadie Robertson Huff- finished October 9th
If you didn't know, I love reading Sadie's books. They are all so good. I will never not read one of her books.
My favorite book by Sadie will always be Live. I'm not kidding...I actually have read that book at least four times.
So, ofc I had to get this book when it came out. And, the cover!! THE COVER. The cover of this book is stunning, and I just love it.
This book is really similar to Live except for the fact that it has short little devotionals for you to read every day. So, if you don't like longer chapter books, definitely read this book with the shorter devotionals! Highly recommend!
4. The Silent Patient: by Alex Michaelides- finished October 11th
Somehow, this reading month has become a month of reading out of my comfort zone.
I've never read a psychological thriller before, and I always read young adult books, so when Nicole Laeno chose this book for October's book club read, I immediately decided I wanted to read it.
I've heard so much about this book, and I already knew going in that there was a plot twist. I love plot twists, especially when they completely shock you.
I'm honestly surprised how much I liked this book. I gave it five stars, and I went crazy when I read the plot twist.
Soooo....if you're in the mood for a psychological thriller...definitely pick up this one!
5. Do It Afraid: by Joyce Meyer- finished October 12th
It took me a while to read this book, but I really wanted to let everything sink in, and I just wanted to get a lot out of this book.
This was actually my first Joyce Meyer book, and I'm amazed that she's written almost one hundred books in her lifetime.
It was so good. Please go read Do It Afraid!
6. Rock Paper Scissors: by Alice Feeney- finished October 13th
So, Sara Carolli (check out her YT channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/SaraCarrolli ) inspired me to read this book because she rated it five stars and loved it. Then, she went on to rant about how much she loved Alice Feeney books, so I decided to give her books a try!
And, I liked this book! Plus, it's being made into a movie so I'm excited for that to come out.
7. Sometimes I Lie: by Alice Feeney- finished October 17th
When I was at the library picking up Rock Paper Scissors, I saw that they had this book from Alice Feeney as well, so I decided to pick it up.
It's about a woman who wakes up in a coma. She can hear everything around her, but she can't move, and the book shows her life before she was put in a coma along with some diary entries.
It does deal with a heavy topic, so be aware of that. I thought it was really good, but also sad. And disturbing. But, I think I gave it four stars on Goodreads!
8. Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2): by Tahereh Mafi- finished October 22nd
When I read the first Shatter Me book, I thought it was just good. I didn't think it was amazing, but I gave it five stars.
I've heard so many YouTuber's talk about this book series, and I had no idea how I was going to feel after reading the second book. BUT, I'm in love with it. I gave it five stars (but six if there was an option for that on Goodreads.)
IT WAS SO GOOD, and I highly recommend this series!! I'm now Team Warner, and I'm super excited to read the next book.
9. The Selection (book one): by Kiera Cass- finished October 24th
I'm already in the middle of like three different book series, so why not start another one?
So, I randomly started hearing a lot more about this series, and I decided that I was ready for a good dystopian series. I love dystopian books, and I will always have fun finding more to read.
This series is definitely something I could have read in middle school, but I'm just now reading it, and let me just say, I'm loving it!
I rated the first book five stars, and I decided I was on Team Maxon, but wait until I read the rest of the series to see what team I'm on by then lol.
I highly recommend this book!
10. The Elite (book two): by Kiera Cass- finished October 27th
The next book I read this month was the second book in The Selection series. This book made me want to switch straight over to Team Aspen, and I'm still not sure where I stand with the love interests, but I really enjoyed this book. I'm excited to finish the series! And, I definitely recommend this series!
11. The One (book three): by Kiera Cass- finished October 29th
I really really enjoyed the first three books in The Selection series! I'm really glad I read them and I really hope there does end up being a movie.
My favorite book was definitely The Selection, and the other two were good but there were a few things that annoyed me a little bit. But, overall I think this is a five star series for me!
12. The Prince (novella- 0.5 from The Selection series)- finished October 30th
So, when I went to the library to pick up The Selection series, I found out that there were several novellas for the series, and at first I wasn't sure if I was going to end up reading them, but then I found a bind up of two novellas from the series at the library. So, I picked up two novellas in one book, and then decided to read the series before deciding whether or not to read the novellas.
Usually I read the novellas in order for book series, but for The Selection, I found that it was better to read the novellas after reading the first three books. It just makes me sense and you're already familiar with the characters.
This novella was from Maxon's POV, and I enjoyed reading his thoughts when he first met America!
13. The Guard (novella- 2.5 from The Selection series)- finished October 31st
I ended off the month of October with another novella from The Selection series. This novella was from Aspen's POV, and it was pretty good!
And that was everything I read in October! I think my favorite book I read was probably The Silent Patient or The Heart of Betrayal. The Silent Patient had me shocked and I loved the ending! And, The Heart of Betrayal is just such a good book!!
I hope you find some good books to read from this list, and thank you for reading today's blog post!
