Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to or back to my blog!! As you may know, every month I share every book I read! Happy 2022, and a new part to this series!! (I decided to change up the title because it's a new year.) Let's just get into it!!
In January, I read five books.
1. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder: written by Holly Jackson- finished Jan. 3rd
I decided to buy this book after watching Haley Pham talk about it in a YouTube video. It's a whole mystery surrounding two deaths (supposed deaths, because you go into the book not sure if they actually died.) Here's Amazon's description: "Everyone in Fairview knows the story. Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town. But she can't shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer? Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn't want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger."
This book was amazing!! It was one of those books that you just want to finish in two days because of how good it is!! I highly recommend, but just know there are some mature themes when you read about the whole solved mystery.
(So, this is a trilogy, and you'll notice that I didn't read the second book in January. This is so because I ordered all three books from Amazon and got the first book, then the third book, and had to wait like two weeks to get the second book in, soooo. Yeah, I'm reading the second book right now!!)
2. Game Changer: written by Neal Shusterman- finished Jan. 11th
Oof. This book. I'm sorry, it's gets like 3/5 stars from me. Okay, let me explain.
Neal Shusterman is my favorite author because he wrote my favorite series, The Unwind Dystology. And, I've always thought that I could pick up any one of his books to read and immediately love it, but with this book, it was a whole different story.
I think this is one of his recent books. It came out on February 9, 2021. His most recent one is Roxy which came out November 9, 2021. (I have not read Roxy yet, but I do know it's written from the point of view of a drug. I know it sounds weird, but Roxy is supposed to be an example of why drugs are bad for you.)
Anyway, I was so bored reading this book at the beginning, but closer to the end it did get a little exciting. And, I like to connect with the character I'm reading about, but I did not connect with the main character at all. I didn't like all the choice he made, and I know I didn't connect with him just because he's male. I know there was another reason I really just didn't like the main character. I feel so bad saying that! Like, I honestly wish I had loved it!! But, I just didn't. It's my least favorite books Neal has ever written.
Here's the description: All it takes is one hit on the football field, and suddenly Ash’s life doesn’t look quite the way he remembers it. Impossible though it seems, he’s been hit into another dimension—and keeps on bouncing through worlds that are almost-but-not-really his own. The changes start small, but they quickly spiral out of control as Ash slides into universes where he has everything he’s ever wanted, universes where society is stuck in the past…universes where he finds himself looking at life through entirely different eyes.
And if he isn’t careful, the world he’s learning to see more clearly could blink out of existence…This high-concept novel from the National Book Award-winning and New York Times-bestselling author of the Arc of a Scythe series tackles the most urgent themes of our time, making this a must-buy for readers who are starting to ask big questions about their own role in the universe.
(Ummm....so I just went on Amazon to get the description and read some of the reviews. There's this one review that is so perfect that it explains like the exact thoughts in why I don't like this book. So, if you decide to check out this book, go to Amazon, and read the first review. It's amazing how one person can explain exactly how I feel about this book. It's almost like Neal is just trying to remind you everything that's going on in the world today. So, please go read that review before deciding to get this book!)
I really hate saying that I don't like a book, but I wanna be honest about my feelings on books, so there's that. (;
3. Get Out of Your Head: written by Jennie Allen- finished Jan. 16th
This book. IS. AMAZING.
So, I did not read this in a week, or a short period of time. It took me forever to read this book because in the middle of reading it, my room was being re-done, and I had to move to another room in my house for four long months. And, during that time, I did not read any of this book. But, I decided to pick it back up and finish it as soon as I got back into my room. I definitely will probably end up re-reading this book, but it's so good!! Five stars!! You should read it!! Here's a description: Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me. Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns. As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with power from God to fight and win the war for our minds. In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie inspires and equips us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. Our enemy is determined to get in our heads to make us feel helpless, overwhelmed, and incapable of making a difference for the kingdom of God. But when we submit our minds to Christ, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in remarkable ways. It starts in your head. And from there, the possibilities are endless.
4. Keeper of the Lost Cities (book eight/Legacy): written by Shannon Messenger- finished Jan. 24th
Obviously this book was not a disappointment. I loved it, just like I love all the other books in the KOTLC series!! (I have not read book 8.5 yet because after I read it I'll have to wait until November for the next book.)
I'm not going to add the book description because it's a book in the middle of the series and I don't know if the description has any spoilers, plus it won't make sense if you haven't read the rest of the series. I highly recommend this book and the whole series though!!!!!!
5. The Girl Who Knew Too Much: written by Tiffany Brooks- finished Jan. 30th
Okay, this was a really good book! When I was buying it at Barnes and Noble, the cashier told me it was really good, so ofc I had high hopes for it when I started it. Here a description: Survivor meets Lord of the Flies in this fast-paced adventure with fascinating characters and pulse-pounding tension. You think it's a game? Think again. High school senior Riley Ozment is desperate to change her reality after making a fool of herself on social media. She needs to do something drastic to repair her social standing—like trying out for a Survivor-style reality TV show. Suddenly, Riley's dropped onto a deserted tropical island with nineteen other teens competing for a million dollars and a rumored treasure lost on the island. But that treasure has a history: a local curse says that seven people need to die before the treasure can be found. And six hunters have already lost their lives in the search. Now the question is: who will be the seventh? With a cast of vivid characters who will stop at nothing to win the show, a cursed island setting, and a priceless treasure waiting to be discovered, The Girl Who Knew Too Much pitches readers right into a scheming web of lies, love, and betrayal. A fast-paced new thriller where allies may not be who they say they are and legends abound, perfect for fans of young adult mystery and suspense!
I just looked at it on Amazon and it came out on January 4th of this year! That's crazy that's it's already in book stores. My book's been out for two months now and it's not even in stores yet.
