Hey guys and welcome back to my blog! In today's post, I'm going to be reviewing a book written by my friend Rebecca Thompson. At the end there will be a short little interview with Rebecca where I asked her some questions about writing her book. Let's just get into it!
Of course I'm going to start off this blog post explaining what the book is about. It's called The Girl of the Tree and it's a fantasy novel.
This is what the back cover says, "Her whole life, Willow was told that she would be the queen of her country, Havraina. But when she discovers that she shares a mysterious connection to a dying tree, everything changes. Willow is suddenly thrust into the world of the elves, who believe that her bond with the tree will help save their race. With the help of a quirky witch and an aspiring soldier, she travels to a hidden orchard to find a new tree. However, Willow is not the only one looking for the orchard. Can she save the elves before it's too late?
She's not the Princess. Willow's not her name. And she's not human. She's the Girl of the Tree."
Why do I like this book? I like this book because the plot is very interesting, and for someone who has trouble developing plots for fiction books, I admire the plot in The Girl of the Tree.
Why you should read this book...
- If you like fantasy books, then you will like this one because the journey Willow goes through to save the elven race is an exciting one. Willow goes through many challenges and faces them head-on.
- I really like how Willow never gives up on finding the tree. I feel like that can be a theme of this novel: Never giving up no matter what challenges you face.
- One thing that can really be bothersome about books is the content in them. Unless you look up a book before you buy it, you might get a book that has something inappropriate in it. For me, when I read books that have characters that say a lot of bad words and just aren't good examples, I don't really like the characters all that much. Like, the book might be good, but if I don't like the characters then what's the point? But, I love all the characters in The Girl of the Tree which really made reading this book more enjoyable.
- By reading the book, I could tell how much effort and hard-work was put into it. It's not an easy task to write a book. I'll probably write several books that may not end up being published, but I think it's important to write what you want to write and not give up even if it is hard.
I think you should give this book a chance! You won't regret it! Please go check out this book by clicking this link: https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Tree-Rebecca-Thompson/dp/B09GZ991XJ/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1634592899&sr=1-1 It's also linked on my link tree as well!
Now for the interview with the wonderful author, Rebecca Thompson!
Q and A with Rebecca:
1. What gave you the idea of writing a book? I was watching Lord of the Rings with my family and had been wanting to write a fantasy for a while, so I finally decided it was time to write a fantasy novel!
2. Did you just randomly come up with the character names, or do they have separate meanings? (I love all of the character's names!) For the names, I looked at the internet for inspiration and found unique names and then changed the spelling of them to make them more "fancy." (: I don't remember where I came up with Eirwyn, but I know that it's actually a real name!
3. How long did it take you to write your book? It took me about a year to write the book and then another year to edit/publish it!
4. Do you think one day you might write another book of a different genre, or is fantasy your favorite thing to write about? I love the fantasy genre, but I've always wanted to write a dystopian novel! And I plan on writing one after I finish this series!
5. Do you have a favorite character from The Girl of the Tree and why? Elm the Horse is definitely my favorite character because I love the few scenes she's in where she's annoyed by the elves and Eirwyn. My second favorite is probably Eadrele because she ended up being an unconscious expression of myself and I learned a lot about my own personality through her.
I really liked all of Rebecca's answers to these questions! I'd have to say my favorite character is probably Noreth. I really liked the idea of Eadrele/Willow having a friend younger than her because most of the time it seems like people have friends of the same age. Also, I thought the idea of Noreth being a ralihc (he can shapeshift I think you would call it) was really cool!
Overall, I really enjoyed the book and its story. I'm excited for the next novel because I wanna know what happens next!!
Go check out this book and thank you to Rebecca for answering some questions! ~Ella
