The Messengers: A Christmas Short Story (blogmas day three)

Hey there! My other short story series will be back. Do not worry! I'm just taking a break from it with this new short story written just for blogmas. I don't know yet if you will see any of the other short story this month, but for now you will see a lot of this new short story. Happy reading!

Chapter one:

“Merry Christmas to you and you and you!” my twelve-year-old sister, Becca, announced all too merrily one Saturday morning.

“Would you just shut up?!” I yelled, and I could tell our cat, Snow, was silently agreeing with me from where she was perched on her bed. “It’s not even Christmas yet!”

“Parker…” Mom came into the room, juggling laundry, and she frowned at me. “Don’t be rude to your sister. She is just getting into the Christmas spirit! Frankly, I think you need to get into the Christmas spirit unless you want us to call you Scrooge for the rest of the month.”

I rolled my eyes. I could feel Mom’s eyes watching me as I ran up the stairs to my room. Then, I could just imagine her yelling at me as I turned up my rock and roll music as loud as it would go on my speaker.

Not even ten minutes later, there was a knock on my bedroom door, and I turned the music up as loud as it would go, thinking it was Mom and she would get annoyed. Instead, the door opened slowly, and in stepped, Stacey, my girlfriend.

“Parker!” she yelled over the music, “Can you turn that down? I need to talk to you!”

I turned the music off and scooped her into a hug. “Where’ve you been? I missed you.”

Stacey looked sad all of a sudden, and she let go of me. “I’m sorry for having to do this to you right before Christmas, but…”

I searched her eyes, becoming worried, “But, what?”

“We’re done. I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry,” Stacey looked like she was going to cry, then she turned around and walked out of my room. I heard her going down the stairs, and closing the front door behind her.

“You’re kidding! She actually broke up with you right before Christmas?” my best friends, Amanda, and Chris were on the phone with me. We were talking about how much it stunk that I would be single on Christmas.

“Yup, and I don’t understand why. I thought everything was going pretty well between us, but apparently, I was very wrong. And I still don’t know why she broke up with me. She didn’t explain anything. She just told me the news and ran off.” I ran my hands through my hair and threw the covers off the bed. I sighed, “I gotta go. I’ve got work in ten minutes.”

“Good luck,” Amanda and Chris both said and hung up.

So far not much has happened, but in a couple days more will be happening. Get ready! ~Ella
