The Messengers: A Christmas Short Story (blogmas day ten)

Chapter four:

At church Sunday, Kate was telling me about an idea she had to spread Christmas joy for families in town for the holidays. I listened intently as she told me about how we would make little gift baskets, and surprise every family with one on different days. No one would expect it, yet everyone would be excited for it.

“The only problem with my idea is, I don’t know what we should call ourselves. We have to keep our identity a secret, but at the same time we want people to know what to call us. Any name ideas?” Kate wondered.

I laughed, “We should call ourselves the ‘R.A.O.K.A.’”

“The what?!” Kate asked.

“‘The Random Acts of Kindness Agency’. Great name, right?” I explained.

“No, I know what we should be called! We should call ourselves, ‘The Messengers.’” Kate brushed her fingers through her hair, and continued, “I mean, we are being messengers for Christ. We are spreading love to people all around town, and we are going to make people happy this Christmas.”

“Okay, that would work. How do you know I will actually help you though? We have never talked to each other before in our lives, and we barely know each other. Why do you want my help?”

Kate looked at me intently, “Somehow, I just know I’m going to need your help. I don’t know. It’s weird, but I just had a feeling that I would need your help to make this idea come to life.”

“Random, but okay. Let’s do it! Let’s bring joy to people’s lives this Christmas season!” I gave Kate a hug, and smiled. Things were weird, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to do something fun for once, and Kate’s idea sounded like a lot of fun.

Almost to the end of this short story! What are your thoughts so far? I think Kate and Parker are coming up with a very good idea! ~Ella
