The Messengers: A Christmas Short Story (blogmas day eight)

Chapter three:

“Not even a day after Stacey breaks up with you, you have a secret admirer?” Amanda asked me the next morning at school. I could tell she was curious and wanted to know more.

“Looks like it,” I raised my eyebrows, “Speaking of secret admirers…”

Amanda looked behind her, and there was Kate. She was walking right towards us.

“I’ll leave you two to your talking,” she said and went in the opposite direction as Kate.

“Hi,” Kate said, stopping right by my locker.

“Hi,” I replied, watching her closely. She was about to ask me out, I knew it. It’s so obvious when a girl wants to ask you out. They make it obvious.

“I was wondering...I mean-I was gonna tell you this last night-then I kinda forgot what I was gonna say…” I waited patiently as Kate worked up the nerve to say what I knew she was gonna say. “Geez, I don’t know why this is so difficult! Parker, would you like to come to church with me this Sunday?”

I almost gasped. That was not what I was expecting at all. I was expecting her to invite me to go to dinner or to a movie, but church? Where did that come from? “Uhh...okay. Sure!”

Kate smiled, relieved. “I’ll pick you up at 8:30 on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you then!” She smiled brightly, and then walked away. I stared after her, confused.

No one had ever invited me to church before. It wasn’t like I had never gone, but…

I don't really have much to say except get ready for the next chapter to come out! ~Ella
