I just finished reading The Hiding Place and I highly recommend reading it! The book really changed my perspective on things and I personally think everyone should read it. It's a true story written by Corrie herself about how she survived being in the concentration camps during the time of Hitler. I'm sure we have all heard or watched a movie, or read about Hitler. You probably already know about the Jews being arrested and brought to concentration camps, then later killed in the gas chambers. I definitely cried when reading this book because it's sad, but it's also happy. I'll explain that in just a minute. I watched The Book Thief and The Boy in Striped Pajamas movies a while back, and they also gave me different perspectives of what things were like during that time. (Spoiler alert! There might be spoilers in the next paragraphs, so if you haven't read the book you might not want to read this!)
In the book, Corrie explains what it was like for her family who owned a watch shop. In my opinion, there were four parts to the book: before Jews were killed, Ten Boom family helped in the underground, Ten Boom family was arrested for helping Jews, Corrie was released a week before women her age were taken to the gas chamber. Those are the four different parts that sum up what happened in the book.
Corrie's family were all Christians, and I loved the way God worked in their lives. Corrie, her sister Betsie, and the rest of their family consisting of Casper, Willem, Nollie, (I'm pretty sure that was everyone) were arrested by the Gestapo. Read the book please! I don't want to give too much away, so please go read it! God worked so incredibly in this family's lives, and the way Betsie saw every situation as something good really impacted me. Thank you for this book Corrie! On April 14th remember to be thankful for Corrie's life (that's her birthday). Her and her family did such amazing things for the Jews, even though they would be risking their lives.
