Hey there and welcome welcome back to my blog! It's time for another chapter of Innocent Until Proven Guilty! This is chapter nine, and all I'll say is that things are getting juicy...
Chap. nine
“I just wanted to keep you safe,” Jaydin said, a few tears falling down his face.
He explained the whole story. Or, at least the part he knew of the story.
Astrid still had yet to figure out the name of whoever had blackmailed Jaydin into turning himself in for murder. And she still had yet to even track the person down, but getting some answers from her brother was the first step to solving the mystery for good.
“So you did know Amylee?” Astrid asked, trying to piece some of the puzzle together.
“I didn’t know her personally, but I do recall seeing her at football games sometimes.”
“Well, I talked to her on the phone and the person who blackmailed you must have hurt her, or scared her or something. When I brought you up and this picture of you in the yearbook that she was in the background of, she seemed scared and ended the call quickly. All she said before she hung up was ‘the blue and white jersey,’ and ‘the black crow.’”
Jaydin looked surprised when he heard what Astrid had to say about Amylee.
“Do you know something about what Amylee said?” Frank asked, watching Jaydin’s reaction after Astrid finished speaking.
Jaydin nodded his head slowly. “I know who you’re talking about. I know who it is. I know who blackmailed me. I know his name and I know where he lives and I know exactly who he is!” Jaydin stood up and started heading back to the house. Astrid and Frank followed close behind.
“Where are we going?” Astrid asked.
“We’re going to confront him and his stupid blue and white jersey for trying to hurt you. And then I’ll make him explain the whole black crow thing. It’ll make so much more sense after we turn him in. I just know it.”
“Wait! Jaydin! Stop!” Frank called, making Astrid’s brother stop in his tracks.
“Are you sure this is a good idea? What if there’s a smarter way to do this?” Frank protested, quickly adding, “Astrid hasn’t even shown you the letter yet. What if this isn’t such a good idea. What about just calling the police and letting them deal with this?”
Jaydin put a hand over his face, then put his hand back down to his side. “What letter?” He asked, looking from Astrid to Frank in confusion.
“He wanted me to tell you that you’re not welcome here anymore. He wants you to leave to keep me safe.”
“All the more reason to end this right now while we still can,” Jaydin replied, looking stressed and scared at the same time.
“Who are we going after Jaydin?” Astrid questioned. “I need to know before we go and confront him.”
“We’re going after Scott O’Dair. He was in Amylee’s grade when I was a senior. I have no idea why Amylee is scared of him, but I know he killed Matteo. He killed my best friend.”
“How do you know for sure?”
“Because. You said blue and white jersey. He wore a blue and white jersey at every football game even though our school colors weren’t even blue and white. It was like he was obsessed with that one jersey. I have no idea why, but I remember it. I remember him. He was always standing off on the sidelines. He came to every game. I never really wondered about him and his reason for being there until now. I mean, I have no idea why he was at every game. He wasn’t part of the football team. But, he was there. And it was weird.”
Astrid and Frank were speechless for a minute until Frank said, “Then how are we going to confront him without him knowing? It can’t be safe to just walk over to his house and knock on the door and ask to be let in. And to ask for the truth.”
Astrid nodded. “You’re right. We have to at least have a plan.”
“Okay,” Jaydin said, “then let’s make a plan.”
All three of them looked at one another, thinking about what to do next, but before anyone could say anything, there was a sound.
Someone started talking, leaving them standing there dumbfounded.
The voice said, “I know what the plan should be.”
And that was chapter nine! Umm...I know you're probably eager to figure out what happens next, so I'll try to get chapter ten out ASAP. Expect it on Sunday!!
This short story is coming to an end....I hope you're liking it so far! Thanks for reading! (I'm posting every book I read this month on Saturday) ~Ella
