Being honest right now, I almost failed you guys. I almost had to tell you I couldn't post the eleventh chapter....haha I ran out of storage on google docs and gmail and all that right as I started writing the eleventh chapter, so now I'm writing directly onto this blog post. SO....thank goodness I have other options for writing lol...
The next day...
“I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing. All I was trying to do was save you. I let him blackmail me. And then he tried to scare you, and hurt me, and nothing I did helped anything. I should have just turned him in at the very beginning,” Jaydin said, looking at his sister and her boyfriend.
They were sitting in Astrid's bedroom, and thinking about everything that had went down with Amylee's appearance, and the plan they'd made to capture Scott.
It was crazy. It was a little insane. But, in the end, they'd succeeded.
"I forgive you, even though you scared me so much," Astrid said, laying back on her bed.
Jaydin was sitting in the desk chair across the room, and Frank was sitting on the floor, leaned up against the wall.
Frank laughed. "I know it shouldn't be funny, but Scott was some kind of psychopath. He was so obsessed with getting rid of you. I'm so glad he's locked up now."
"Just because he's locked up doesn't mean we're safe. He's still awaiting trial, and we're all going to be there. We'll see him again," Astrid pointed out.
"Yeah," Jaydin chimed in, "but it's going to be okay. We're going to be okay. This is almost over."
Astrid nodded in agreement as Frank asked, "Do you think Amylee will ever come back here?"
"I don't think so," Astrid replied, smiling at her boyfriend. "Scott is her worst nightmare. She probably never wants to see him again. I'm thankful she came back just to help us get rid of him though."
This time everyone nodded in agreement. Then they were silent for a minute, until Astrid asked, "Did you guys ever find the blue and white jersey, or figure out what the black crow was supposed to mean?"
Frank sighed. "I swear I searched that house up and down, and never found anything."
"Oh well. What's one unsolved mystery?" Jaydin joked, making Astrid raise an eyebrow.
An unsolved mystery?
A few years later...
Lilac put her bags down, smoothing her light purple dress. Then, she looked at her new house. It was a gift from her parents for her twentieth birthday.
They told her they had been searching for months, and finally found a good sized house to give her.
Apparently the previous owner moved out because they were in trouble with the law. Whatever that meant, Lilac didn't know, and she didn't think it really mattered what the house's past was.
She was just thankful to have somewhere to call home.
Once the door was unlocked, Lilac set her bags in the entryway, and began to search her new house.
She was excited to see it for the very first time.
When she made it to what she would call her bedroom, she was walking around, taking it all in, until she stepped on a loose floorboard.
She knelt down, and tugged it up. Underneath the floorboard, there was a little hidden compartment.
And in the compartment was a folded up blue and white jersey with a black crow sewn onto the front of it.
Well, that completes Innocent Until Proven Guilty. That's the end, folks.
I really hope you enjoyed reading this short story. I've had a fun time writing it, and even though this is a completely un-edited story that probably has many mistakes, I'm proud of it. I'm happy I got to share it with you. I hope you liked it.
And I hope you're ready...because this is not the end. As you can tell, this chapter ended with a cliffhanger. And if you know anything about cliffhangers, this isn't the end. This is just the beginning. (Of a new mystery? Maybe. Of a new short story? Possibly.) You'll just have to wait and see. 😉 ~Ella
