Welcome back to The Quoted Blog! Today's the day that you get to read more of Innocent Until Proven Guilty!
I'm going to try my very best to get the next chapter out quickly because I hate making you wait, but I also want to give people time to read each chapter.
So, with that being written, here's chapter eight. I'm sorry that it's short, but that's just how it is lol. Chapter nine coming Friday hopefully!!
Chap. eight
“So the license plate said ‘ORM180?’” the police officer whose badge read Officer Hynes asked.
Astrid was sitting in a very uncomfortable chair in his office at the police station.
It was a few hours after she had had the run-in with whoever it was in that car, and she was telling Officer Hynes the whole story so he could track down the car.
“Yes sir. And the car was a light blue Porsche.”
“Okay,” the officer nodded, writing down what she said on a piece of paper. “Thank you for this information, Miss Astrid. I’ll call you or have someone call you when we figure out whose car this is.”
“Sounds good,” Astrid replied, getting up from her chair.
When she was sitting in her car outside the police office, she texted Frank.
Wanna hang out and help me solve the case for good?
Immediately, three little dots appeared below her text, indicating that Frank was typing.
She waited a few minutes, and a new message popped up.
Headed to your house now. I needed to talk anyway.
Astrid sent a smiley face and heart back, then pulled out of the police station parking lot and headed to her house.
When she made it home, she got out and noticed her mom’s car wasn’t in the driveway, but her boyfriend’s was.
Frank was sitting in the living room on the couch when she opened the front door. He had a key of his own that she had given him a few months after they started dating.
“Have you seen my mom?” she asked, sitting down beside him and taking her shoes off.
“No, she wasn’t here when I got here. Do you have any idea where she is?”
“No, none. I’ve been out for a while, and I thought she would be here when I got back.” Astrid grabbed some fluffy socks from a basket and put them on, getting comfortable on the couch.
She looked at Frank and smiled, then grabbed her phone and shot a quick text to her mom.
“Okay, I texted her. Hopefully everything is okay.”
“Are you ready to talk about whatever is on your mind?” Frank asked, putting an arm around her.
Astrid responded by laying her head against his chest. Then she said, “Yes. I think you might get mad by what I have to say though.”
“Out with it then.”
After Astrid had explained the run-in with the Mystery Guy and her trip to the police station, Frank took her hand.
“I promise we’re getting to the bottom of this. I know we haven’t learned much yet, but I think we should try to talk to Jaydin. I know he knows something about this guy, or girl.”
Astrid sat up. “I think it’s a guy to be honest. And, I don’t think Jaydin’s gonna talk. When he came home, all he did was tell me why he was home. He didn’t say he was glad to see me or anything. And when I tried to get answers, he blew me off and told me it was a ‘long story.’”
“Then I’ll talk to him,” Frank replied, standing up.
“Where are you going?” Astrid asked.
Frank ignored her question, and instead asked another. “Where is your brother?”
Astrid shrugged. “Let me go see if he’s in his room.”
A few minutes later, Astrid returned to the living room with a confused look on her face.
“What?” Frank asked.
“He’s not here.”
“You sure? Is there a special place outside where he likes to hang out?”
Astrid thought for a moment. “Possibly. Come this way.” She slipped on some shoes and pulled Frank along with her as they headed to the backyard.
When they made it to the garden, Astrid noticed Jaydin sitting on a bench looking at the little pond way behind their house.
“Jaydin?” she asked, leading Frank over to her brother who looked back at them for a minute then turned to face the water again.
“What now Astrid?”
“Now don’t get mad at me!” Astrid protested. “I saved your life! You could’ve died!” Astrid stood in front of the bench so Jaydin would look at her. “Now I need you to tell me the truth.”
Jaydin looked like he was going to say otherwise, but when he saw Frank come to stand next to Astrid, he started talking.
That was chapter eight! It looks as if Astrid is going to finally get this mystery solved!! Come back on Friday for a new chapter! (And if there is not a new chapter on Friday then feel free to get in touch with me on my blog and remind me...jk...I will get chapter nine out ASAP.)
Fun fact: the license plate at the beginning of this chapter is not at all random...I made it up. The OR stands for Olivia Rodrigo, and the M stands for Mckenna (Mckenna Grace that is.) And the 18 stands for January 8th which is the day drivers license - the song - came out. So, that's the story behind that. I wanted the license plate to be about two of my favorite singers.
Thanks for reading this chapter!! Hope you'll come back to continue this story!!!!!! ~Ella
