I LOVE READING (so here's what I read in May)

Hey there, and welcome back to my blog! As I do every month, I'm going to share with you all the books I read in May. If you want to see what other books I read this year so far, you can click this link: https://miribrooks1.wixsite.com/quoted/my-blog/categories/everybookireadthismonth

So, this was an interesting reading month...I'm starting to run out of books, basically, so this month I read a lot of books I got from thrift stores and some books that are different then what I would usually read.

With that being written, here's what I read this month...

In May, I read 13 books.

1. Verity: written by Colleen Hoover- finished May 2nd

Okay, so, after reading It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, I was almost positive that I would never read another book by her again.

It's not that It Ends With Us was bad, but it's more like it was a little too much.

But, everyone is talking about Colleen Hoover's book right now, so of course I decided to give her another shot.

So, Verity is a romance-thriller. I love thrillers, and I thought, why not give it a try?

Umm...Verity was interesting. Would I recommend it to you? Maybe not, unless you're an adult.

I thought the plot was very interesting, but I don't like Colleen's writing style, and I'm sorry, I don't think I'll be reading anymore of her books.

2. Roxy: written by Neal Shusterman- finished May 5th

Next we've got Roxy. And, if you know me, then you know that Neal Shusterman is my favorite author.

The last book I read by him was Game Changer, and if you read that post about my thoughts on that book, you'd know I didn't really like that one.

But, Roxy made up for Game Changer.

Roxy was amazing. I did not relate to it personally, but I still really enjoyed it and I think it has a really great meaning behind it.

3. You Owe Me a Murder: written by Eileen Cook- finished May 8th

So, this was another interesting book. I liked the plot and everything, but I wasn't entirely obsessed with it. I did give it three stars on goodreads, but it wasn't the most amazing book I've ever read.

4. Splinters of Scarlet: written by Emily Bain Murphy- finished May 11th

I got this book from a blind date with a book package, and at first, I really wasn't sure if I was going to like it that much. And, after I finished it and read other reviews I was disappointed that other people thought this book wasn't that good.

On the other hand, I thought this book was amazing.

The theme reminded me of when Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected. I highly recommend this book if you want a sweet read with a little mystery, a little romance, and characters that stand up for what’s right!!

5. The Possibility of Now: written by Kim Culbertson- finished May 14th

This book was different than what I would normally read because it had to do with skiing. I had no idea about that before going into it, but I enjoyed reading it.

It was a cute book!

6. Chains (Seeds of America, #1): written by Laurie Halse Anderson- finished May 17th

I was actually planning on not starting this series until June, but I started it early because I'm running out of books to read.

But, I actually made a tbr (to be read) list of books I want to read in the summer, and I plan on finishing this series then.

I really enjoyed the first book of this series! I thought it was really good!

7. Who Are You Following: written by Sadie Robertson Huff- finished May 17th

I started this book a few months ago, probably in February when it came out, and obviously it was good. I don't think Sadie has written a book that is bad. Actually, I know she hasn't.

I love Sadie's books and I highly recommend all of them!

8. The Running Dream: written by Wendelin Van Draanen- finished May 19th

This was another book that was different from what I would normally read. It was about a girl who lost one of her legs in an accident.

I really liked this book because it showed the main characters thoughts and feelings after losing her leg, and showed how she got through that hard time.

There are definitely people in this world that can relate to this book, but I recommend it to anyone!Who Are You Following: written by Sadie Robertson Huff- finished May 18th (or a few days before that)

9. Girls With Sharp Sticks (#1): written by Suzanne Young- finished May 22nd

It's honestly a coincidence that I even read this book in the first place because I went to 2nd and Charles looking for Book Lovers by Emily Henry, as I should, and upon not finding it, I continued to look around the store.

And, keep in mind that there are booktok books I want to read as well. There are other books I've heard people talk about a lot I wanted to get, but they were like $18 at the store, so I didn't get them.

So, I was browsing the young adult section, looking for Book Lovers, or the Summer I Turned Pretty series, but instead, I found this book.

Girls With Sharp Sticks.

Now, the title sounds gruesome, but the cover of this book...haha I only found this book because the front cover was facing where it could be seen in the book store.

Anyway, I bought this book, and then learned that it was a trilogy...

It was phenomenal. I spent a whole day reading this while watching The Vampire Diaries.

And then I finished it on a Sunday when the library was closed and they did not have the next book available at Barnes and Noble or 2nd and Charles.

So, now I'll have to wait to read the second book.

But, I'm just so impressed by this book. It was so good. It is so good. And, you should look it up and read the synopsis. ALSO, check out my Good Reads to read my honest thoughts about this book other than what I wrote here: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/105221730-ella-catherine

(And this book has my second favorite book cover of all time. The cover of Wilder Girls by Rory Power being my first favorite book cover I have ever seen. 😂)

10. Book Lovers: written by Emily Henry- finished May 26th

After I finished Girls With Sharp Sticks, I didn't have access to the second book in the series because I finished the first one on a Sunday.

So, I went to Target looking for Book Lovers.

And, I found the last one.

I finally got to read my first Emily Henry book! I kinda think I read it at the wrong time though because I was still thinking about Girls With Sharp Sticks, and Book Lovers is just a little romance book compared to Girls With Sharp Sticks that is filled with a lot of crazy things lol.

But, I did like Book Lovers. I'm still trying to get into reading romance books, so I wasn't like "this is the best book I've ever read." However, it was still good! It had a cute story, and a good meaning.

I'm pretty sure I gave it four stars on Good Reads.

11. Girls With Razor Hearts (Girls With Sharp Sticks book two): written by Suzanne Young- finished May 28th

Okay, so if you've read my review of Girls With Sharp Sticks, and even read my review on Good Reads, you would know that I gave the first book five stars because I absolutely loved it.

And, as soon as I could get to the library, I picked up the last books in this trilogy.

I love the second book. It was really good. The first one was probably the best out of all three though.

But, this is a really interesting series! It's way different than what I normally read. And, apparently it's science fiction...which I don't think I ever read, so yeah.

I recommend this series. Highly. So, go check it out!

12. Girls With Rebel Souls (Girls With Sharp Sticks book three): written by Suzanne Young- finished May 30th

As I wrote about the first and second books in this series, this was so good. This book was probably the perfect way to end the series. I really enjoyed it, and I, again, highly recommend.

The Girls With Sharp Sticks series was one of my five star series that I've read this year!

13. Count All Her Bones (Girl, Stolen book two): written by April Henry- finished May 31st

The last book I read this month was Count All Her Bones. I actually read Girl, Stolen way back in middle school, and I had no idea there was a second book. But, when I found out there was one I wanted to read it. The first one was really good, and I really liked the main characters.

The second book was really good! I enjoy reading April Henry's books and it's been a while since I've read one so it was nice to read this one. Both books are really good!

And, I actually will be reading another April Henry book in June. So, yeah! I gave this one five stars, and if I had Good Reads back in middle school, I'd probably give Girl, Stolen five stars as well.

And that concludes my May reading wrap-up! I read some really great books this month, and trust me, I will be reading a lot more good ones this summer. I have a whole list of books I want to read in June and July, and I'm super excited to have more free time to get to them!!

Plus, there's the Where The Crawdads Sing movie coming out this summer, and The Summer I Turned Pretty series tv show to look forward to.

If you haven't already read Where The Crawdads Sing, or The Summer I Turned Pretty series, you should! Then you can watch the movie and show when they come out.

Thank you so much for checking out every book I read! I hope you'll go check out some of these books!

I think my favorite book I read this month would have to be Who Are You Following by Sadie Robertson Huff. You can never ever go wrong with one of Sadie's books. They are just so good!!

And, my favorite book series I read was the Girls With Sharp Sticks trilogy. That's the only series I read this month, but I just had to shout it out because I don't know why, but I'm obsessed with it. I loved the characters, and it was just so good!

Okay, I think that's all for today's blog post! Please stay tuned for every book I read in June! I already know June is going to be a great reading month! I'm excited! Anyway, thanks for reading! ~Ella
