Hey there, and welcome to or back to my blog! It's the end of June, so you know what that means...it's time to share every book I read this month! I hope this blog post gives you some good book recs for next month. (And, yes I'm aware I read a lot. I promise this blog post is not about bragging how much I read!) Okay, let's get into what I read this month...
In June, I read 15 books.
1. Everything, Everything: by Nicola Yoon- finished June 1st
So, the first book I read in June was Everything, Everything. Now, I know it looks like I read it in one day, but I actually started it in the afternoon on May 31st, and then finished it on June 1st. When you have a lot of free time, you have more time to read lol.
I picked up this book from the library because I already knew there was a movie out for it, and I can't pass up the chance to read the book then watch the movie. It's so fun to do! (By the way, in an upcoming blog post, I wrote my thoughts on the movie versus the book. So, stay tuned because that's coming out like end of July because I'm waiting for the Where The Crawdads Sing movie to come out before posting that.)
My final thoughts on this book: It was a super cute little romance! If you know me, it's hard for me to get into romances sometimes. They have to be closed-door or I just can't. And, a lot of romance books are not closed-door which is just...too much. And, I don't want to have to skip over something unless it's open-door.
Anyway, I really actually liked this book. I liked the way the chapters were super short, and it kinda looked like the main characters diary. The layout was just so good! AND, one of the main characters names was Olly, or Oliver, and for some reason, I keep reading books with that name. And it always reminds me of my guinea pig who passed away. )':
2. Eyes of the Forest: by April Henry- finished June 2nd
I love any book that April Henry writes. Her books are right down my alley, and I kinda forgot about her until I went to the library one day and saw the April Henry section.
One day, I want to read all of her thrillers because they are just so good.
(And, get this, I went to Barnes and Noble a few weeks after reading this book and found out she just came out with another thriller, but ofc it was $18 at B&N so I passed. But, I will read it.)
So, this book was really interesting. It was about an author who disappears, and his writing assistant, I think she was a seventeen year old girl, goes looking for him. Obviously, there's more to the story, but I am not the greatest at explaining what books are about sometimes, so I'll let you look it up on your own.
But, I had no idea what to think of this book. It had an interesting thing in it that one of the characters was obsessed with that I wasn't sure about. But, I still liked it. I just didn't really like one of the characters. I think I ended up giving it three stars on Goodreads.
3. The Summer I Turned Pretty (#1): by Jenny Han- finished June 5th
If you have been paying attention to all the popular book tok books lately, then you probably have heard about this series already. And, you probably also already know that the Amazon Prime series is coming out on June 17th....But, I finally read The Summer I Turned Pretty Series.
I have to add, the first book was most definitely the best book. I really loved it. And, after reading book one, I was team Jeremiah, but I quickly changed my mind by the third book, and now I'm team Conrad.
In the show, I would probably be team Jeremiah haha, and I'm not going to explain why.
Here's a link to the show trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfAueqEab30
(Fun fact -because I'm extremely excited for the show- the actor who plays Jeremiah played Young Damon on The Vampire Diaries which I love. Yeah, that was it. Wait! And, he's a Christian. Okay, that was my fun fact.)
Overall, the first book is the best. Now, let's see what my thoughts are on the other two books...
4. It's Not Summer Without You (#2): by Jenny Han- finished June 6th
The second book was really good. It was sad though. I can't tell you why because that would be a spoiler...
It just didn't give the same vibes as the first. I gave it four stars on Goodreads.
5. We'll Always Have Summer (#3): by Jenny Han- finished June 8th
Okay, I thought the last book in the trilogy was a pretty good ending to the whole story, but when I read Ali's review on Goodreads (I was going to add it but I'm having trouble signing into Goodreads on my computer) I decided I did agree with her a little. She said that she thought some of the characters were immature. I don't know.
But, I did think the ending was good. So, this one got four stars on Goodreads as well. And, that's because I loved the series. I might have liked the first book the best, but overall it was just such a cute book series.
6. The Monsters Club: by Lotté Jean Elliott- finished June 9th
At the beginning of May, Lotté Jean Elliott actually reached out to me about this book, and she sent me a copy of it as a pdf. An author has never reached out to me before about their book, but I was so happy when I was sent this book!
So, because I had this book online to read, it took me about a month to finish it because I had school and I rarely read ebooks. It just takes me longer, but I really actually enjoyed this book.
The plot was very intriguing and completely different from anything that I've ever read. And, I want to add that the first one hundred pages were a little slow going, but then the plot really got more interesting, and by that point I was ready to finish it and see what happened next.
Thank you Lotté Jean Elliott for reaching out to me! I'm very glad I read your book, and it is really good!
When you write a book, you really have to think through what's going to happen. What the hook will be. There are just so many things to think about when writing a book, and I truly thought that this book was written really well. Everything made sense. And, even though I didn't like the main character all that much, I really enjoyed this book.
And, it's based off of a real Japanese murder case which is a little unsettling when you think about it, but yeah...this was really good.
(By the way, there's going to be a second book which is exciting!)
7. All These Bodies: by Kendare Blake- finished June 12th
The first time I saw this book, it was in Barnes and Noble. So, I wrote down the name, and ended up getting it at Walmart another day.
The reason I wanted to read this book was because the synopsis reminded me of The Vampire Diaries. (If you didn't know, I love TVD.) So, I read it. It was good. It was slow though, and I thought it was going to be a quicker read than it was.
I ended up giving it four stars just because when I rate books I don't just rate them off of how exciting they were. I rate them off of the plot and how good the overall book was written as well. Because I don't want to judge a book off of how I liked or disliked it. The author spent a lot of time writing it and if I just give it two stars for not liking it, it seems like a waste.
I don't know why I'm explaining this, but I think it's important to think of everything when you finish reading a book and want to rate it.
So, this book was good. BUT, it wasn't my favorite I've ever read. (:
8. People We Meet on Vacation: by Emily Henry- finished June 16th
I thought that Emily Henry only had three books out, but apparently she has like seven published. Which is cool because I haven't heard about her other books, so now I want to read another one.
Anyway, Emily Henry's most popular books right now are Beach Read, People We Meet on Vacation, and Book Lovers. I've read Book Lovers, and now I've read People We Meet on Vacation. I just learned that Beach Read is being made into a movie (I think) so now ofc I have to read it too.
I read People We Meet on Vacation with Nicole Laeno's book club. She does that with an app called Literati.
Anyway, I actually liked it! It was a really cute romance, and I think I liked it better than Book Lovers!
9. A Court of Thorns and Roses (book one): by Sarah J. Maas- finished June 19th
I finally read A Court of Thorns and Roses....and I'm going to finish the rest of the series. Slowly, but surely.
If you didn't know, almost every book in A Court of Thorns and Roses series is long. There are five books total I think, and most of them are just thick. So, it's going to be slow going, but I'm excited to finish the series!
Either way, the first book was really good! I gave it four stars.
10. Seven Dirty Secrets: by Natalie D. Richards- finished June 21st
I was hooked after reading the first page of this book. It's a thriller, and it's just so good! It's one of those books that you want to finish in a day just so you can find out what happens. And, I didn't even guess the ending of this one!
11. Lock The Doors: by Vincent Ralph- finished June 24th
So, I read my first book by Vincent Ralph a few months ago, and I liked it. So, when I found out that he had a new release, I decided to check it out.
I loved this book so much that I gave it five stars.
I can't explain it. It was just that good.
Check out my goodreads review to understand a little more what I mean: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56805052-lock-the-doors
12. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: by John Mark Comer- finished June 27th
I make it a point to read a Christian book/devotional every single month. So, this book was June's pick.
It was really good! I really liked everything John Mark Comer had to write about slowing your pace and not living such a hurried life.
13. The Cheat Sheet: by Sarah Adams- finished June 27th
This was my second favorite romance book that I've ever read! (My first favorite is Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter ofc.)
I love closed-door romances so freakin' much. They're just so much better.
I don't care about kissing and such. I like to read a romance book with more of the characters and their interests and learning more about character personalities.
So, I highly recommend this book!
14. The Naturals: by Jennifer Lynn Barnes- finished June 28th
Oh my goodness...Okay, so...because I read The Inheritance Games, I decided to read another book by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
Now, I made a whole list of books I wanted to read this summer, hence why I'm currently in the middle of four different book series (lol)...
Anyway, this book series has five books. The first book was amazing. I loved all of the characters.
Highly recommend!
15. Witch and Wizard (book one): by James Patterson and Gabriella Charbonnet- finished June 30th
So, as I mentioned before in this post, I have a summer tbr list I want to complete by the end of summer. I kinda wish I would have made a blog post sharing it with you in the beginning of June, but I didn't, so it's fine.
Anyway, on my tbr, I have stand-alone books, and book series. I have like six different book series on my tbr list. It's ambitious, I know. I've almost read all of the stand-alones except for four. And, I've completed the first book of four different book series. (I'm getting there! Okay!)
With that being written, this is the fourth series that I've started. It's also going to be one of the series that I for sure finish before the end of summer. I mean, I think it will be.
And, I had iffy feelings about this first book. It was completely different from the other series I've started. (For reference, I've read the first book of the Seeds of America trilogy by Laurie Halse Anderson -about slavery- the first book of A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas -fantasy with a touch of romance- the first book in The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes -true crime/mystery- and the first book in the Witch and Wizard series -complete fantasy-)
So, I gave Witch and Wizard book one three stars on Good reads. It was funny, and it was good, but it wasn't my favorite!
Wow. June was a great reading month. I had no idea I was going to get serious with my reading list for this summer, but when you make a list, you just have to finish checking everything off.
I've been having so much fun reading and writing, and just doing whatever I want. It's sooo nice to have free time. And, by the way...I've already written fifty pages of my second book. So. Stay. Tuned. You're not gonna want to miss this one. (It's going to be a fiction book this time! That's all I'm sharing with you right now..)
Okay, it's time for me to pick my favorite book from this month.
I think my favorite book from this month is probably The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I just really connected with the characters, and I love the characters, and I'm just most excited to finish that book series!
Also, I wanted to write this again. Thank you so much Lotté Jean Elliott for reaching out to me about your book! I'm looking forward to the second one, and yeah! I'm really glad I got to read The Monsters Club!!
So, I think that's going to conclude this blog post. Thanks for reading! Have fun reading! Have fun doing whatever it is you do. And, come back soon for a new blog post!! ~Ella
