Hey there! Welcome to The Quoted Blog! As you can tell by the title, I love reading...and today, I'm going to share with you every book I read in August. I do this every month, so if you need some good book recs, then click this link for more: https://miribrooks1.wixsite.com/quoted/my-blog/categories/everybookireadthismonth
Because school started this month, my reading game slowed down, which makes me very sad. I wish I could have more time to read during the school year, but unfortunately school takes up a lot more time...but, I'm happy with what I ended up reading!
I read 13 books this month.
1. Twelve (The Naturals Novella): by Jennifer Lynn Barnes- finished August 3rd
During the summer, I read the whole Naturals series, and I really enjoyed it. So, I bought the ebook of the Novella, and it was really good! I'm sad that I've finished the series, but I'm glad I read it!
2. A Court of Wings and Ruin: by Sarah J. Maas- finished August 7th
It's extremely hard to read a long book like this lol, but I'm really enjoying the ACOTAR series. Ummm....Feyre and Rhysand are amazing, and...yeah. Definitely give this series a chance!
3. The Upside of Falling: by Alex Light- finished August 8th
I read this book as an ebook, which I don't do very often. But, I think I saw another booktuber reading this and I found out it was free on Kindle. So, I read it and it was such a cute little romance book!
I loved the main characters and this book was just so well written! I highly recommend! This is one of my favorite romance books I've ever read. And, it's fake dating too which is always fun!
4. Mister Tender's Girl: by Carter Wilson- finished August 12th
After reading a 700 page book and a romance, I decided that I was ready for a thriller. Little did I know that this book would be a wild ride...umm...I was just slightly disturbed after reading this book. It was kinda crazy, and definitely a thriller...the writing was really good. But, I don't know. It was just crazy what happened in this book.
5. Every Summer After: by Carley Fortune- finished August 16th
Next I read Every Summer After, which I've heard a lot about. I've heard that it's almost exactly like Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren, which I have yet to read. So, I'm excited to read Love and Other Words and compare my thoughts to that book with this one.
Anyway, I love this book! It's so good! And the cover....don't even get me started. The cover of Every Summer After is perfect and I'm obsessed with it.
6. Losing Brave: by Bailee Madison and Stefne Miller- finished August 16th
So, this was a re-read because during the summer I randomly decided that I wanted to annotate my first book. And yes, I know everyone thinks annotating is boring or just something you do for school, but it can be fun. I promise.
I've never had to annotate anything for school before, so this was my first time and I had fun with it!
It took me about a month or two though because in between I was reading other books and then school started. But, I finally finished reading and annotating it, and I loved getting to read this book again! It's so good, and I gave it to my best friend Meredith!
You should definitely trying annotating a book for your friend! It's fun to read someone's annotations. It really adds to the book.
7. The Castle School for Troubled Girls: by Alyssa B. Sheinmel- finished August 20th
So, I picked this book up from the BOGO 50% table at Barnes and Noble, and I thought that it looked like a thriller. I didn't really read the synopsis when I bought it because sometimes I like to just skim the synopsis and leave the rest a surprise.
This was definitely a slower read, and at times it was interesting, but I quickly learned that it's more of a coming-of-age book than a thriller. I don't know why I thought it was going to be a thriller. I'm kinda glad it wasn't though. I enjoyed everything about this book in a coming-of-age sense.
I think I gave it four stars on Goodreads! I definitely recommend. There are some I guess you would say trigger warnings. And this book does deal with some heavy topics. But, it's still really good!!
8. Secret at Mystic Lake (Nancy Drew Diaries book 6): by 'Carolyn Keene'- finished August 22nd
Okay, next you're going to see that I read several Nancy Drew books. I randomly decided that I wanted to do a challenge where I read Nancy Drew books for a whole week. I could have read seven books if I didn't have school, but because of school, I only read four books.
I will always love Nancy Drew books, and I have a feeling that I will still be reading Nancy Drew books when I'm like old...lol. They're so easy to read, and I just love the characters. They're iconic, and if you've never picked up a Nancy Drew book, what are you doing? Like, for real? What are you doing? (; (Here are a few of my fav ND mysteries- The Mystery at Lilac Inn [Mystery Story #4], The Sign of the Twisted Candles [Mystery Story #9], Password to Larkspur Lane [Mystery Story #10], The Ghost of Blackwood Hall [Mystery Story #25], The Clue of the Dancing Puppet [Mystery Story #39]. There are so many more favorites, but those are just a few. (If you're going to read Nancy Drew, make sure to read either the Mystery Stories books, or the Diaries books because those are the best.)
So, this book was really cute! It definitely was not my favorite Nancy Drew Diaries book, and I thought the mystery was kinda boring, but it was good!
It followed Nancy, Bess, and George going on a little camping trip for George's birthday. But, things quickly went wrong for the girl's when their camp guide went missing, along with other important things. So, Nancy had to get to the bottom of the case and why their camping trip was going so horribly.
9. A Script for Danger (Nancy Drew Diaries book 10): by 'Carolyn Keene'- finished August August 23rd
This was the next ND book that I read in August! A Script for Danger followed Nancy and her friends as they visited the scene of a movie being filmed. I think it was a movie. Nancy's friend Alex was the director of the movie, and Alex invited her to go see the movie being filmed. But, things quickly began to go wrong at the set of filming. (I'm sorry I can not explain things very well..I'm trying.)
By the way, I rated all the ND books I read four stars because they're all good, but there are only certain ones I would rate five stars.
10. The Key in the Satin Pocket (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories book 152): by 'Carolyn Keene'- finished August 26th
Next we have The Key in the Satin Pocket! This book followed Nancy, Bess, and George again. But this time, it started off with the girls in an antique store, and Nancy found a nice blue shirt that she picked out. And, later she found a key sewn in the pocket of the shirt.
Suddenly people were trying to steal the key from Nancy, and the mystery was trying to figure out what the key went to, and why people wanted to steal it from Nancy.
11. Lost in the Everglades (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories book 161): by 'Carolyn Keene'- finished August 27th
The last book I read for my Nancy Drew reading challenge was Lost in the Everglades. This was a re-read because the other Nancy Drew Diaries book I had was longer, and I thought I should read a shorter one for the last one. Plus, I didn't realize until after I started reading it that I'd already read it.
Anyway, this is a good mystery. Again, not my favorite.
It follows the three girls visiting the Everglades. Nancy's friend Susan tells the girls that her roommate, Jade has been missing, so Nancy Drew decides to solve the mystery and find Jade Romero!
12. The Cruel Prince (Folk of the Air trilogy #1): by Holly Black- finished August 29th
This book was interesting, to say the least. I was bored at some parts, and excited at others. I don't really know how I feel about this book. I gave it three stars on Goodreads. I thought it was good, but there's just something about it I really didn't like. I don't know. I recommend it, but I feel like I need to read the rest of the series before I can really say if you should read it or not.
13. The Sign in the Smoke (Nancy Drew Diaries #12): by 'Carolyn Keene'- finished August 31st
So, I finished off this month with yet another ND book, and this one was also really good. I really enjoyed the plot, and that this book was 100 pages longer than other ND books that I have read.
And....that concludes my reading wrap-up for August! I read some really great books this month, and I'm excited for next month.
I think my favorite book I read in August was probably uhhhh either A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas, or The Upside of Falling by Alex Light.
Okay, thanks for checking out what I read in August! Always come back at the end of the month for more book recs! And, don't forget to check out my new journals: https://miribrooks1.wixsite.com/quoted/buy-my-journals ~Ella
