Here it is..............chapter three..............I'm sorry for the long wait lol............

Chapter three

“Your brother’s jersey?” Lilac repeated, looking at Archer. She was surprised. “Who is your brother?”

“His name is Scott Patterson.”

“So I’m living in your brother’s old house?”

“I guess so,” Archer nodded with a far off look in his eyes.

“Is something wrong?” Lilac asked, pushing a piece of hair out of her face.

“Well, my brother is in prison right now.”

Lilac looked sad. “Oh…I’m sorry. I had no idea.”

Archer sighed. “You know, it doesn’t matter. Can you just drive me home please?”

“Okay, sure,” Lilac replied, getting back on the road.

After she had dropped Archer off and was heading home, she looked in the passenger seat to see the jersey. She wondered if she should go back and ask Archer if he wanted it, but then she decided to leave him alone for a while. Clearly seeing the jersey reminded him of something he didn’t want to remember. And as curious as Lilac was, she wanted to know why. She wanted to know why Scott was in prison, and why his jersey was left behind in her house.

On a whim, Lilac decided to learn more, and headed straight to the library. Surely they had old yearbooks there. Surely she could find the Oakland yearbook section. Maybe she could learn more about Scott. Maybe there was a reason why the jersey was where it was. Why it was left behind.

She was in the back of the library looking through old yearbooks when she found one for Oakland High. It was a yearbook from a few years earlier. Lilac guessed that Archer would have been in his first year of high school or at least sophomore year in the yearbook. Or, he might not have even been in high school yet at all. She had no idea how old Scott was.

Lilac flipped through the yearbook until she found a picture of Scott Patterson. When she flipped to the back, she found an index telling her what pages Scott was on. And sure enough, when Lilac found the picture of kids on the football team, she found Scott’s picture. He was wearing the same exact jersey she had in her car. The one that made Archer think about the past.

Was there something important about that stupid jersey, or was Lilac trying to look into things that didn’t even matter?

Finally, after flipping through every page of the yearbook and not finding anything interesting, Lilac left and headed home.

It was when she made it home and pulled up to her house that she saw an unfamiliar car in the driveway.

She got out, grabbed the jersey and her bag, and headed to the front door. But as she got up to the front door, someone got out of the car sitting in her driveway.

Lilac stopped in her tracks to see who was approaching her. “Can I help you?” she asked as a woman holding a briefcase walked up to her. She was dressed really nice in a black skirt and black jacket over a white shirt.

“Yes, actually I think you can,” the woman said, stopping a few steps away from where Lilac was standing. “Do you live here?”

“I do,” Lily responded, starting to get a little suspicious.

“I have orders to search this house. Apparently the former owner hid something here that wasn’t properly taken care of before he moved out.”

“Were you going to break in?” Lilac questioned, feeling a little uncomfortable.

“No ma’am. I’m sorry to bother you. I was just going to see if anyone moved in. I had no idea someone lived here now.”

“Who do you work for?” Lilac wondered.

The woman hesitated for a second before saying, “Sunshine Incorporations. I have orders to search this house.”

“Where’s your proof?” Lilac asked, starting to get a little angry.

The woman pulled out several pieces of paper from her briefcase, but didn’t give them to Lilac right away. When she did, she didn’t give Lilac long to look at them before she said, “I really need to look for something now. I don’t have much time before I need to head back.”

“I’m sorry,” Lilac said, giving the woman her papers back. “I would rather not have anyone search my home. If you can tell me what you’re looking for, I’d be happy to search myself and get back to you on that.”

“Never mind. It’ll be fine,” the woman said, looking very hurried as she backed up and headed to her car. Before she got in her car, a piece of paper flew out of her briefcase, but she didn’t try to get it, and instead just drove off.

Lilac watched her leave, only picking up the piece of paper she had left behind when she was sure she was gone. When she read what the paper said, Lilac couldn’t help but be shocked.

And that was chapter three. I will try to get chapter four out earlier than five days later like I did for this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it! ~Ella
