Hey there and welcome back to my blog! I know I haven't been posting anything on here lately, but honestly I've been busy going to school and working on finishing my next book, which is coming sooner than both of us thought it would.
I'm so excited for the day I finally get to share everything about Called By Name with you, but for now here's everything I read in September! (p.s. a new season of The Quoted Podcast is coming soon as well...stay tuned.)
1. The Silence In Her Eyes: by Armando Lucas Correa- finished September 1st
⭐⭐⭐
The first book I finished this year was actually a book that is not out yet. I discovered NetGalley in July of this year, and I figured out that I could request to read books before their release date. For. Free.
So, obviously I had to go request some books!
This book is a psychological thriller that follows a woman who has a condition where she can't see movement. She can see everything else, but when someone moves, she only sees like a blur.
The main character lives in this apartment, and she always hears her neighbor across the hall crying, so she gets this idea that something weird is going on. All she wants is to help her neighbor and make sure she is okay.
It's a mystery/thriller because you want to know what's going on with the neighbor, and you're also getting some little cliffhangers at the end of each chapter.
I ended up giving this book three stars because it was a little slow. I was also confused by the writing at times, and I honestly did not understand the ending at all. It was a bit too much.
However, I didn't want to DNF this book once while reading, and I enjoyed it even though I didn't love it.
I would still recommend this book to anyone who wants a fun little thriller! It comes out in January next year, so if this sounds interesting to you, definitely add it to your TBR! (Or request it on NetGalley 😅)
2. A Thousand Heartbeats: by Kiera Cass- finished September 1st
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I ended up finishing this book on the same day as the first one, but I read a physical copy of this one.
Earlier this year I read The Selection series by Kiera Cass, and I absolutely loved it. Then I saw that Kiera released this book, and I wanted to read it also.
Overall, this book follows a girl and a boy's POV. It's sort of an enemies to lovers book with a twist of like princess and prince vibes almost.
My only complaint about this book is the fact that the middle was a little slow and unnecessary. But, I really enjoyed it!
3. Only A Monster: by Vanessa Len- finished September 3rd
⭐⭐
It took me a whole month to read this book.
I love fantasy, but this was just not it.
It was slow and the story just seemed so not needed.
The beginning was really interesting, but as the plot unfolded, I was just so bored and I didn't care about any of the characters.
It felt like it was never going to end and I struggled getting through it.
This book definitely has potential, but it was not for me.
4. Retro: by Sofia Lapuente & Jarrod Shusterman- finished September 10th
⭐⭐⭐
Retro was one of my most anticipated reads of 2023 because Jarrod Shusterman is Neal Shusterman's son. And Neal Shusterman is my favorite author of all time.
I went into it thinking it was going to be a fast paced thriller, but it kinda wasn't. And I understand why it wasn't now, but that was a little disappointing.
I really appreciated the social media aspect of this book. The plot was a really interesting and good idea. It did seem kinda silly. Like, why do I need to read a book about kids who don't go without a phone or electronics for a challenge?
I'd still recommend it, but it's also not how I expected it to be and I didn't really love it.
5. Unsouled (Unwind #3; re-read): by Neal Shusterman- finished September 16th
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've been in the middle of re-reading my favorite series ever, and I ended up reading the third book this month. Looking back, this is probably my least favorite in the series because I don't like two of the POV's, and I don't like the beginning of it being so slow.
But the ending really makes up for everything I don't like, and there's at least two parts that remind me how much I love this series.
I'm obsessed with Camus Comprix.
Do I think his name should be pronounced Cam-us Com-prix instead of Cam-u Com-pri?
Absolutely.
But I love him. I love Cam. I couldn't tell you why. But he got a character based off of him in my next book because of the love I have for his character.
If you haven't read this series, READ IT.
I will never get tired of re-reading this series.
6. Throne of Glass: by Sarah J. Maas- finished September 22nd
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Earlier in this blog, I wrote that I love fantasy. And my favorite fantasy author is Sarah J. Maas.
I love her writing. I love her imagination. I admire her for the books she writes.
If you've never read anything by this woman, you probably won't understand, but everything she writes is phenonmenal.
Anyway, Throne of Glass was Sarah's first book series, and she wrote it when she was in high school I believe. I've heard so many people rave about this series and say that it was their favorite out of her other series.
I think most people start with this series when they read her books, but I started with A Court of Thorns and Roses then I read Crescent City.
I'm so glad I finally got to start this series, and I'm really excited to continue it. However, as much as I enjoyed this first book, if I were to rank all three of Sarah J. Maas' series right now, it would be: Crescent City, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Throne of Glass.
Crescent City will just always be my favorite, but I'm excited to continue Throne of Glass.
And that concludes everything I read in September!! My favorite book was probably Unsouled, but I also read some other good books too.
Get ready for October because it's going to be an exciting month!! I hope I can finally announce more info on my next book, but you'll just have to wait and see!! ~Ella
