everything I read in May ~ 2023

Please tell me you need some good books to read. Because today, I'm going to give you some good books to read.

Let's get into every book I read in May...

1. Restore Me (Shatter Me #4): by Tahereh Mafi- finished May 1st

⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's been such a long time since I've read this book, but I do remember that I enjoyed it. The first three books in the Shatter Me series were so different from the last ones. It's really fun though because I was not expecting anything that happened in this book.

So, I recommend.

Plus, how could you pass up a chance to read about Aaron Warner.

(;

2. Defy Me (Shatter Me #5): by Tahereh Mafi- finished May 4th

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I finished this book on the best day of the year.

That was a joke. I don't know if Star Wars day is the best day of the year, but I love Star Wars. So...

Anyway, this book was also really good, and I will be finishing the series over the summer. My favorite book in the series is still book three though.

3. To Kill A Kingdom: by Alexandra Christo- finished May 9th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is one of my favorite books I've ever read. It's like a retelling of The Little Mermaid except it has sirens and a prince of course.

It's just such a wholesome book, and I love it. I also really loved the ending a lot, and the character arc.

Overall, I highly recommend this book!

4. Lying in the Deep: by Diana Urban- finished May 13th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I read this book with one of my friends Jayden, and we are now besties with Diana. So, if you ever need to know something about one of her books, we've got you.

Diana Urban is so nice, and her books are genuinely so good.

These Deadly Games is still my favorite that she's written because it wrecked me so much and made me so mad. But, I also really enjoyed this one!

And, may I add, I guessed the ending. It wasn't completely correct, but it was correct.

If you want a fun little thriller on a cruise ship, this is your book!

5. Beach Read: by Emily Henry- finished May 18th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love Emily Henry's writing, and I've been trying to read all of her new books. So, this was one I've had on my list since last summer, and I'm happy that I finally got to read it.

It was really cute because both of the main characters were writers, and I gave it five stars because it's Emily Henry. But, like most romance/historical romances, I'm not completely in love with it.

6. The Fear: by Natasha Preston- finished May 22nd

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I read The Twin by Natasha Preston about a year or two ago, and I kinda boycotted her books for a while. That book just made me so extremely mad because it ended on a cliffhanger.

But then I saw this book at the library, and I decided to give her another chance.

Let's just say...Natasha Preston is a thriller writer that loves to end on cliffhangers.

And in my opinion, if you're going to end on a cliffhanger, give me another book that sums up the story so I don't have to think about the way it ended on a cliffhanger.

Overall, I liked The Fear way better than The Twin. It honestly had a slightly better/not so so infuriating ending, but it still made me mad.

(Basically I'm having a war with Natasha Preston books right now.)

Do I recommend this book: I recommend it over The Fear. That's it.

7. The Do-Over: by Lynn Painter- finished May 24th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my second Lynn Painter book, and I just love her writing. All of her young adult books are just so good. Period.

Better Than The Movies will always be my favorite, but I also really love The Do-Over. It was just so cute, and if it's clean, it's good. End of story.

I definitely recommend this book!

8. The Blue Lady of Coffin Hall (Nancy Drew Diaries #24): by Carolyn Keene- finished May 25th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you're ever looking for a feel-good, sweet little mystery book, Nancy Drew is the book you want to read. I love Nancy Drew, and I 100% wish she was a real person because I'd love to be her best friend.

Anytime I pick up a Nancy Drew book, I love it. So, you should go pick up a Nancy Drew book.

9. The Housemaid's Secret: by Freida McFadden- finished May 28th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

May was such a good reading month because I had a lot of five star reads, but either way, this is another favorite.

I emailed Freida McFadden after reading this and asked her if we're getting a third one, and she did say she hasn't ruled it out...so I'm extremely excited for another Housemaid book.

This book was crazy, just like the first one, but I love it. I love Millie's character, and I highly highly recommend.

10. The Girl From Widow Hills: by Megan Miranda- finished May 30th

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was looking for Megan Miranda's new book one day, and I could not find it, so I randomly grabbed this one because I was at the library, so it didn't matter how many books I got.

Anyway, this was not my favorite book I've ever read. I liked her other one called Come Find Me better, but this one was still interesting. It was just kinda slow.

It follows a girl several years later after she was swept away by the rain because she was sleepwalking. And yeah...it reminds me of Mister Tender's Girl, but also doesn't at the same time.

And that's the end of everything I read in May. My favorite books from the month where for sure To Kill a Kingdom and The Housemaid's Secret. But I recommend all the ones I mentioned!

Thank you for checking out today's blog post!

Season 11 of my podcast just started, so it would mean a lot if you'd check out episode one: https://open.spotify.com/show/7JDDRFnLejDpKD9fFzv9hW

That's all for now! ~Ella

(P.S. I'm just gonna keep dropping hints, but something's coming. Maybe even at the end of this year.)
