Hey there and welcome to Ella Writes! Again, this is The Quoted Blog 2.0, so just keep that in mind.
Anyway, today I'm going to be sharing every single book I read in April! This is part of my ongoing series where I share what I read every month, and share my thoughts on each book.
1. Redeeming Love: by Francine Rivers- finished April 7th
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The first book I read in April was Redeeming Love. This is now one of my favorite books that I've ever read. It's probably on my top five or top ten list of books. I'm obsessed with this story and these characters. I want to marry someone just like Michael Hosea. I love him. I love Angel. I love the lesson behind this story. I love Hosea. I love the movie. I love love love the writing.
I have nothing bad to write about this book. I HIGHLY recommend that you read it. Thank you to Quinn for letting me borrow it! I'm definitely reading another Francine Rivers book soon. I just love it. This book deserves all the stars and the whole world. Now I'm getting carried away so I'm gonna stop.
GO READ THIS BOOK RIGHT THIS SECOND PLEASE.
2. Kill Joy (A Good Girls Guide to Murder #0.5): by Holly Jackson- finished April 7th
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
AGGGTM is one of my favorite book series of all time. It's up there with Unwind for sure, and somehow I didn't realize there was a prequel to the series until after I finished it, so I had to go back and get the prequel to read.
I actually got the prequel for Christmas last year, but then Holly decided to come out with a new cover that is stunning, so I ended up with two copies of the prequel. AND I finally read it this month.
I would say this is a great prequel to start off the series, but you can 100% read it after the series as well. Either way it's really good!!
3. Siege and Storm (Shadow and Bone #2): by Leigh Bardugo- finished April 13th
⭐⭐
I refused to listen to anyone that said you don't have to read Shadow and Bone to read Six of Crows. I wanted to read this series before that one so I would be ready to watch the show.
Anyway, I loved the first book in this trilogy, but then Siege and Storm came along and kinda ruined things. It was just super slow. It felt like nothing was happening until the very end. But, somehow I pushed through. I highly recommend Shadow and Bone itself, but book two is kinda a "I wish I didn't read this" book.
I am really excited to finish the series and watch the show though!!
4. Five Survive: by Holly Jackson- finished April 16th
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is Holly Jackson's first stand-alone book I think, and I was really excited to finally get to read it! I love AGGGTM so much, so of course I had high hopes for this book.
And I must say...Holly Jackson did not disappoint.
The beginning of the book was kinda slow, but that only made me want to just keep reading. The reason I finished it when I did was because I just had to know how it was gonna end.
I guess the slow burn was a good idea for this book. It just made me want to read it even more.
And I really loved the ending! I almost feel like this book needs a sequel.
I kinda hope we get a sequel. I need one.
5. The Great Gatsby: by F. Scott Fitzgerald- finished April 19th
⭐⭐⭐
Then, for English class, I read The Great Gatsby. This is one of those books I've always heard of, but never really wanted to read. So I was actually really interested to see what it was about, and how I would think of it.
Nevertheless, this book was something interesting to read.
I don't really care too much about it or the story, but I am glad that I got to read something by Fitzgerald. It's just cool. But I didn't connect with the characters, and I didn't really care too much about the plot. It almost didn't even have one. But it was a cool read. I ended up giving it three stars!
6. Daisy Darker: by Alice Feeney- finished April 21st
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Next I read yet another Alice Feeney book.
I love her thrillers because they're fast paced, and they're always just really good.
I do plan on reading her whole backlist this year. So far I've read 3/6 of her books. I'm really excited to get into another one soon!!
Now for my review: Would I recommend this book?
This is 100% my least favorite book that I've read from Alice Feeney so far. It was so slow and just wasn't a vibe. However, the end was so eerie and strange that it totally made up for the rest of the book.
Therefore, I wouldn't really recommend this book, but if you've read another Alice Feeney book and want to read this one, go for it! It wasn't my favorite, but I also loved the ending- kind of.
7. Vow of Thieves (#2): by Mary E. Pearson- finished April 25th
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love this duology! Dance of Thieves and Vow of Thieves, are just such good books! I highly recommend them, and also the Remnant Chronicles trilogy that comes before these books!
Overall, Vow of Thieves was a great way to end off the whole little series, and I love Mary E. Pearson's writing so much!!
And that's everything I read in April! April was a great reading month, and I think my favorite book I read was definitely Redeeming Love. I love that book so much.
That's all for today's blog! Come back Thursday to read about the book I'm currently writing!! ~Ella
