every book I read in June ~ 2023

At the beginning of June, I told myself I wanted to read 20 books. If I could read 20 books in June and 20 in July, I could really catch up to my reading goal of 150 books.

But, my June reading did not go as planned. And I hope this is a reminder to you that you don't have to read a certain amount of books lol. Just read!

1. The House Across The Lake: by Riley Sager- finished June 2nd

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have been waiting to read this book for such a long time, and I finally got it from the library at the beginning of June.

And, honestly, I really enjoyed this book! The ending did get kind of long for me, and the fact that I was binge-reading it so I could return it to the library just made it drag on.

But the ending was really surprising, and I overall really like this book!! I would definitely recommend it, and know that if you read it, you're in for a thrill. Because the ending is kinda insane.

Also, Survive The Night is still my favorite Riley Sager book.

2. Kingdom of the Wicked (#1): by Kerri Maniscalco- finished June 7th

⭐⭐⭐⭐

After being in a small reading slump from The House Across The Lake's ending, I started the Kingdom of the Wicked series.

I have never read anything like this series. It's so evil honestly.

The whole plot has to do with the princes of hell basically.

But I love Wrath. He's just such an interesting character.

And apparently I was intrigued enough to read the second book. So I went to Barnes after finishing this one.

3. Kingdom of the Cursed (#2): Kerri Maniscalco- finished June 13th

⭐⭐⭐

I didn't like the second book as much as the first one because I felt like it had less of a plot. It had more character development than anything. And one of my least favorite characters appeared.

I am still intrigued by this series though, and I do recommend it.

I plan on finishing it one day, but not now!

4. The Last Chance Library: by Freya Sampson- finished June 15th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then I went to the library, and I randomly found this book in the adult books. I rarely ever go to the adult fiction section at the library, but I do occasionally read adult books.

Anything to do with a library or a book about reading is 100% going to be picked up by me. And I'm obsessed with the cover of this book so much.

I LOVE THIS BOOK.

If you read any of the books on this list, read this one.

IT'S AMAZING.

I can't. It's so cute. Please read this. Right now. Please.

5. Six of Crows: by Leigh Bardugo- finished June 25th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then I had a Shadow and Bone moment.

A few months ago I read the first two Shadow and Bone books, then the second book almost put me in a slump, so I took a break from it.

And in June I needed something to watch so I watched Shadow and Bone...

I was trying to read the series first, but I just couldn't wait, and honestly, I'm glad I didn't wait.

The Shadow and Bone TV show is one of my favorite adaptations I've ever seen. I'm in love with that show, and I need another season right now.

So, because I wasn't ready to finish the S&B book series, and I was in a slight book slump because of a power outage, I started Six of Crows while I was watching the show.

And although this book took me longer to read than I wanted it to, I thoroughly enjoyed it! My favorite character from Six of Crows is Nina Zenik, and my favorite character from Shadow and Bone is 100% Sturmhond (he also has another name, but that's kinda a spoiler...). I also love The Darkling in the show, but not as much in the books.

Anyway, do I recommend this book? YES. YES. YES.

I haven't read the second one yet, which I hear is amazing, but I definitely recommend this book, and I still recommend the S&B book series! But you HAVE to watch the show too!! It's so good!!

Not even Jesper and Wylan could ruin this show.

6. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder: by Holly Jackson- finished June 26th (re-read)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Next, I finished re-reading AGGGTM for the second time! I annotated this for a friend's birthday, and I honestly had so much fun reading it again.

I am so excited for the show that's currently in production, and if you haven't read this book yet, you should definitely check it out!

A Good Girls Guide to Murder trilogy is one of my favorite book series I've ever read.

Please go read it!

7. The Other World: by Abbie Emmons- finished June 28th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The seventh book I read in June was The Other World! I actually signed up to read an ARC of this book early, and I am just so thankful that I got to read this already!

This is an age-gap book, and the only age-gap relationship I can get past is Aria and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars. So, going into this book I honestly did not think I was going to like it very much.

But LITTLE DID I KNOW.

I flew through this book!!

I love it so much. And it's because of the characters. I'm so glad that I gave it a chance, and I'm 100% buying a physical copy when it comes out!!

I highly recommend this book! I also love Abbie's writing. Her debut novel was 100 Days of Sunlight, which I started reading but have not finished yet. However, she did a virtual writing retreat in June that really helped to motivate me when it came to writing my book.

I love Abbie Emmons and I'm so glad that I found her YouTube channel and was able to read this book early!

8. What Is The Story of Nancy Drew?: by Dana M. Rau- finished June 30th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The next book I read was really short, but it kinda gives more background information on Nancy Drew's character.

If you didn't already know, Nancy Drew is the reason I love reading today. I love Nancy Drew books a lot, and I get very defensive when someone ruins her character. I also can not stand the Nancy Drew show that came out in 2019 because it ruins Nancy Drew so much.

Anyhow, this book was really inciteful, and I definitely learned some more about my favorite amateur detective!

If you love Nancy Drew like I do, definitely check out this book!

Those are all off the books that I read in June! Hopefully I can polish off some more of my tbr list in July, and have some more good book recs for you!

I had a lot of good reads this past month, but I think my favorites were probably The Second Chance Library and The Other World.

Thanks for checking out this week's blog post! Stay tuned for more coming soon....~Ella
