every book I read in August šŸ“–

Hey there and welcome back to Ella Writes! I think you already know what time it is, so let's get into everything I read in August!

Ā

1. Unwholly (#2; re-read): by Neal Shusterman- finished August 1st

āāāāā

If you're new here, I love the Unwind series so much that I want to meet Camus Comprix in real life. So, of course I had to re-read the book where we get Cam's POV and introduction. (I promise I'm not spoiling anything. His character is introduced on the back of the book).

And obviously I gave this re-read five stars. And honestly I want you to read this series. If you haven't read it yet, please do. Please.

I love the characters in this series, and I will always enjoy re-reading these books! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

2. What Happens After Midnight: by K.L. Walther- finished August 4th

āāā

After reading Unwholly, I decided that I needed to put a pause on the re-reads and tackle some more books from my tbr. (FYI, I have a tbr cart filled with books I want to read rn, but those aren't all of the books I own...so the moment I finish the ones already on my cart, I get to add more. And that just makes me more motivated to read because I love adding books to my tbr cart. End of story.)

I've heard a lot about The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther, but I have yet to read it. Then I saw that B&N had this book in the store early, so I had to go get it. Because it's cool to have a book before it comes out. It's one of my new favorite things.

This is K.L. Walther's most recent release, and it's set at a boarding school and surrounds a few kids pulling a senior prank. But it's also a second chance romance.

I thought it was really slow, but I would still recommend it. It just felt like it took me too long to read it, and at one point I had to sit down and binge the rest because I was so done.

3. Girl In Disguise: by Greer Macalister- finished August 7th

āāāāā

Next I picked up Girl In Disguise, which is a book written about the first female detective, Kate Warne.

Again, if you're new, I love detectives. I grew up reading Nancy Drew and I wanted to be a detective when I was in elementary school. So, this book looked really interesting, and I'm so glad I read it.

Fun fact: Kate Warne helped Abraham Lincoln hide when there was an assassination attempt, and she was friends with him.

This book was just SO good. I know it's about Kate's life, but it also has some fictional elements mixed in because we don't know everything about Kate. She was a detective, so she had to keep her identity on the down low.

Either way, the story was really fun and fast-paced. I love this book!

4. One of Us Is Back: by Karen M. McManus- finished August 16th

āāāāā

Then I picked up the last book in the One of Us Is Lying trilogy. It's been a little bit since I've read a thriller, so I was really excited to read it!

I will say that this one got a little slow. Maybe it's because it took me longer to read than I wanted it to. But anyway, I still rated it five stars because I think it was a great ending for the trilogy. I just wasn't obsessed with it. I think I liked the first one better.

And, I have to warn you. If you read this series, do not. I repeat, do not watch the show. The show completely ruins the series. Just please don't even risk it.

5. Lucky: by Marissa Stapley- finished August 18th

āāāāā

Ever since I found this book in Ollie's I had been eyeing it on my shelf. It just looked so good, so I finally decided to read it.

Overall, I love this book. It's so exciting and just made me want to know what would happen next. I definitely recommend this book!! 100%.

6. The Dead Romantics: by Ashley Poston- finished August 23rd

āāā

Next I finally read The Dead Romantics which has been on my tbr for a while. And it was honestly a very interesting read, but it just wasn't my favorite.

There was also a side character referred to as they every single time she appeared, and that annoyed me so much. It's common logic that you can't be more than one gender, but the world stresses me out a lot, so there you go...

Anyway, besides that one character, I pretty much enjoyed the book, but at the end it started to feel a little too long. I don't know.

I'd recommend it, but it's not my favorite book I've ever read.

7. Nancy Drew (The Case of the Lost Song #162): by 'Carolyn Keene'- finished August 26th

āāāāā

Then I had to pick up another Nancy Drew book because if you didn't know, I'm trying to read every single ND mystery stories and ND diaries book that exists, so yeah.

I love reading short books every once in a while because they can be so enjoyable, and not take much time to read at the same time. So, of course I loved this book!

Ā

And that's everything I read in August! My favorite book this month was Lucky or Girl in Disguise. But I also would recommend some of the other books I read as well.

I'm very excited to read some more good books in September, and thanks for checking out today's blog post!

Also, I posted a piano cover of What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish several days ago if you want to check it out: https://miribrooks1.wixsite.com/ella-writes/post/what-was-i-made-for-a-piano-cover

That's all for now! ~Ella
