You Never Stop Working

I walked into the prison cell to find Helmuth praying. He didn't know I was there because I was invisible. He was praying quietly, but I heard every word he said. He was asking God to take Him now because he couldn't take another moment of the world. He was praying for a letter because he missed his family so much. I looked around the prison cell, and tried to stop myself from crying as I remembered reading about Helmuth losing his civil rights. He was allowed to be torture and abused, and was not allowed bedding or blankets in his cold cell. After reading all about him, all I wanted to do was meet him and let him know how I feel. He was very brave, and he didn't deserve his death, but he was calm. Helmuth trusted God and was ready for death to take him, even if he was innocent. He cared about his friends over himself.

'"I am very grateful to my Father in Heaven that this agonizing life will shortly come to end this evening... (The Boy Who Dared pg 168)"' -written to Gerhard by Helmuth

I laid my hand on Helmuth's shoulder and said a silent prayer. I said I hoped to see him one day, and talk to him. He will never be forgotten.

I've been very interested in Helmuth's story lately, and of course Corrie Ten Boom's. I just wanted to share this little story. God never stops working. He worked in Helmuth's life, Corrie's, and so many more people. And He is still working. I really have wanted to share these people with you because I've read about how God worked in their lives. These people deserve to be remembered. Not just people from the Holocaust though, Rachel Joy Davis needs to be remembered too. I just wanted to share. (: ~Ella
