You Need to Be Understanding

A lot of the time we judge people's actions based on what we think. For example, you got in trouble in class for standing up to get your pencil that had fallen off of your desk, and later you see the same teacher in the grocery store. You are mad at your teacher for getting you in trouble, and you judge him harshly, but when you see him in the grocery store he tells you and your Mom how hard it's been at home lately. He has been struggling with parenting, teaching, and having enough time to spend with his wife. He explains to you and your Mom what's been going on in his life, which makes you realize you judged him too harshly.

Have you ever caught yourself judging someone you don't know well too harshly? Everyone is going through something in their life that isn't easy, and sometimes we see someone's actions and get an idea of them that is a lie. Be careful with your judgement.

Have patience with others and be forgiving. You treat others unfairly sometimes too, and whether you have a reason for what you do or not, you still need to be aware when you are judging someone too much.

Sometimes people act differently when they have a problem they are keeping secret. They might get mad or do something wrong, but your job is to be understanding.

I wrote a short story in Quoted about a boy who was bullying another child, and in the end, the narrator of the story learned something very valuable regarding her judgement towards the bully, and the way things actually were.

People do have stuff going on in their lives that we don't always know about. Be understanding and kind towards those people you find yourself so easily judging. You have to be understanding. You know you get mad and treat people unfairly sometimes to, and maybe you have your reason's for your actions. That means others probably have reasons for the way they act too. So, don't forget about this today! Remember to be forgiving and patient with those you are judging too harshly, and maybe try to figure out what's wrong. What is making this person act this way? Could it be something going on at home?

Lesson of the day: Be understanding when you come across unfair people, and don't judge them just by their actions. ~Ella
