October fifteenth: Self Control
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” -Galatians 5:22-23
I feel like self control comes off as the least used fruit of the Spirit. I don’t think we always use self control, and that’s really sad. Do you love one another? Do you have joy for everything God has given you? Are you patient with God’s plan for your life? Have you been kind lately? What about being good to one another? Have you been a faithful servant of Christ? Have you been gentle with your attitude towards one another? Are you controlling the way you act, or are you letting sin control the way you act?
If you couldn’t say yes to all of those questions, I believe you have something to work on this week, or month, or maybe even year. I really like Galatians 5:22-23 because it shows an example of how we should act, and it’s important to ask yourself if you’re actually following Galatians.
Getting back to the subject of self control. Today, as you are going about your day, focus on how you are acting towards people. The way you act is how others might define you. For example, if you’re always mean to people, they might think of you as mean, or if you’re always nice to people, they might think of you as nice.
CHALLENGE OF THE DAY: Focusing on not only self control, but all of the Fruits of the Spirit is really important! Live out the Fruits of the Spirit.
