Do Actions Really Speak Louder Than Words?

Hey there! One of my best friends, Alexa, wrote something on the topic about "actions speaking louder than words." What she has to share is so good. Please keep reading!

Do actions really speak louder than words? Yes, they do, but why? Naturally, I do not mean physically speaking with a mouth and expelling audible words, but that your actions can communicate much more than what words do. They communicate your true/untrue feelings, your thoughts, and your words. The mouth, as it says in James chapter three, is untamable. If you say something as simple as, “I care about your feelings,” to a friend, then you go behind their back and spread untrue, negative rumors about them, was your statement really true? It leaves them feeling betrayed, hurt, and angry that you would say one thing, then betray their trust and do another. If you say something and really mean it, you will be more mindful to keep your word. But empty words/emotions are commonly found today. For example, texting does not deliver tone, feeling, or emotion, leaving the recipient only to trust the text is truthful. Emoticons are the only way of expressing emotion, however, how accurate are they? I know I have sent the “lol” emoticon many times in a chat and was not laughing at all. You might be upset at something a friend sent and still put the smiling emoticon just to make them think you are fine with it.

My friends and I had a sleepover and they left me behind to do stuff without me. They did not tell me truthfully where they were going because they did not want me there. After that day, I was questioning if we were really friends. I knew I was still their friend, but were they really still mine?

The phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” is a complete lie. It felt terrible to be the one ‘unwanted friend.’ Their actions that day spoke to me much louder than their words at the time. They apologized, and I forgave them, but what they did was not an accident. They meant to do it, and it hit me hard. This is just one of many examples I have of when actions have spoken louder than words in my life.
