everything I read in April & May📖

Welcome back to Ella Writes! It's been a while, so I think it's time to update you on the things I've been reading! I had a small book slump between April & May, so I didn't get to read as much as I wanted to, but that's okay.

1. Perfect (Pretty Little Liars #3): by Sara Shepard- finished April 5th

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Still slowly getting through the PLL book series because I love the TV shows.

I think this one was better than the last two, but I still think the prequel was the most interesting.

Honestly can't remember what exactly happened, and I feel like this series is kinda slow so far.

But I would recommend giving the book series a shot!

2. In Every Generation: by Kendare Blake- finished April 21st

⭐⭐⭐⭐

In case you didn't know, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my second favorite TV show of all time.

Of course I had to read a book that is a spin-off of the show.

This was an interesting read, but I think it was too slow for me and it felt like barely anything happened.

However, I tried to read another spin-off of Buffy earlier this year and hated it, so this one is so much better.

I would recommend, but I don't think I'm going to continue the series.

3. Nothing More to Tell: by Karen M. McManus- finished April 25th

⭐⭐⭐

Ever since reading One of Us Is Lying, I've made it a point to read every single one of Karen's books.

This was my least favorite so far.

If you're going to pick up a Karen M. McManus book, maybe choose this one last?

4. In The Waiting: by Molly Kay- finished April 29th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

First five star of the month.

This is Molly's first book, and I love supporting independent authors so much.

This was THE book that I needed to read, and I recommend it to anyone who is in a waiting season right now.

You seriously need to go follow her on Instagram and buy her book.

Please.

I'm begging you.

I could not put it down.

And the ending was just so beautiful.

1. The Reappearance of Rachel Price: by Holly Jackson- finished May 12th

⭐⭐⭐

Moving right on along to May...

This book was the hardest book to get through literally ever.

I love Holly Jackson.

I love her books.

I even got to meet her like a month or two ago.

But this book was just not for me.

I was so excited for it too.

It just took me forever to get through and the premise just felt pointless to me.

The ending took forever to wrap up and there were just too many pages and way more explanation trying to solve the mystery pages than was needed.

I would re-read any of her other books over this one because I'm just not a fan.

2. Better Than The Movies (re-read): by Lynn Painter- finished May 17th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then I finished my first and only re-read of May.

I read this book for the first time in 2022 I think, and it was a five star.

I'm happy to announce that it is still a five star as of 2024.

The reason I re-read it was because one of the singers I listen to started her own book club that I joined.

Avery Lynch is the sweetest person ever and if you've never listened to her music you should go check her out.

Also her book club is so fun and I can't wait to read June's book club pick!

I will forever recommend this book because I love it so so much.

3. Turtles All The Way Down: by John Green- finished May 18th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then we have another five star!

I did not think I was going to like this book, but the movie came out on Max in May and I really wanted to read the book before watching it.

Also Isabela Merced is in the movie and she's one of my favorite actresses.

Either way, I really enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would.

I would definitely recommend this one.

It was just so good and I'm still thinking about it right now.

Also the movie is almost exactly like the book.

It's really good.

4. Son of Inasvale: by A. E. Mercer- finished May 19th

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then I devoured the last draft of my best friend Aubrey's book.

I also edited it.

But I'm seriously in love.

Sadly I can not tell you who my favorite character at the beginning was because something always goes wrong with my favorite character.

Anyway, I'm in love with this book.

I basically read it in one day although I did finish it at 12:20 a.m.

Stay tuned on a release date for this one because once it comes out I will not stop talking about it.

For real for real.

Get ready.

5. Powerful (1.5): by Lauren Roberts- finished May 22nd

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the novella to Powerless that covers Adena's side of the story.

When I read Powerless I wasn't really obsessed with Adena's character, but now I am.

I love this book.

It's sad, but good.

I can not literally wait for the next one.

I will be at the book store the moment they open to buy Reckless.

I'm not even joking.

6. Have I Told You This Already?: by Lauren Graham- finished May 23rd

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Next I finally finished Lauren Graham's book.

It's basically a memoir and I love how much she writes in this.

It's like you're besties and she's telling you all about her life.

This is a fun book and I would recommend.

7. The Dare: by Natasha Preston- finished May 24th

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lastly, I gave Natasha Preston a third chance and read The Dare.

At first I kinda hated it, then I fell in love with it and couldn't stop reading.

So, it's a love-hate relationship.

AND, SPOILER ALERT:

THERE WASN'T A CLIFFHANGER THIS TIME.

We're making progress.

Finally.

So, I read more in May then I thought I did, and less in April. I think my favorite book I read in April was In The Waiting by Molly Kay. My favorite book from May was Son of Inasvale and Turtles All The Way Down.

Go check out these books! That's all for now! ~Ella
